IMPORTANT VASCAGE CLINICAL TRIAL PUBLICATION Dysphagia after stroke is common and severely affects the psychosocial functioning. VASCage researchers Anel Karisik and others now published important VASCage clinical trial results on this subject in the European Journal of Neurology. They showed that swallowing impairment is an independent predictor for poststroke depressive and, to a lesser extent, anxiety symptoms. At VASCage both clinical stroke trials and swallowing disorders are major research focuses. https://lnkd.in/dx54e_tS #clinicaltrials #clinicalresearch #dysphagia #strokerecovery #strokerehabilitation

Brain Health; A call to action: this is about addressing modifiable risk factors early and accurately thus modifying the trajectory of the dementia spectrum. Get lifestyle, blood pressure, lipids and diabetes optimised to live better......longer. #personalisedmedicine #dementia
If anti-amyloid therapies offer little benefit for those with Alzheimer’s, will earlier diagnosis provide any benefits? We argue yes. Cardiometabolic and lifestyle interventions can indeed have a profound impact on the long-term outcomes of patients with all types of dementia. As such, we welcome findings of a study that may enable the widespread use of blood tests to detect Alzheimer’s in over-50s - allowing for the condition to be detected up to 15 years before symptoms show. Our goal at Metadvice is to combine early diagnosis with personalised interventions that have the greatest likelihood of success - allowing patients to live healthier lives, for longer. Just published in The Lancet Neurology : our Correspondence on ‘A multipronged approach to advancing palliative care for people with intellectual disabilities’. Special thanks to Drs. Michael Sham, KK Lam, Bryan Li, Toni Au, Ashley Wong and JCRC Mr. Yuen, Mr. Lo & Jeannie and those working for ‘Embracing the Setting Sun’-an important project to bridge palliative care gaps for disabled (mentally/physically handicapped) in Hong Kong. Highly appreciated the comments from Prof Benzi M Kluger: The Correspondence also highlights a broader issue, namely the need to consider the potential benefits of palliative care for all people suffering from life-limiting and serious neurological illness, not only those with obviously terminal conditions..in the same issue of Lancet Neurology 2024. #Lancet #palliativecare #Intellectualdisabilities
