Certification and qualification of metal AM parts for aviation: from confidence to evidence 🚀 We are proud to announce that AMiquam has been featured in a report by industry experts Donald G Godfrey and Fernando Lartategui about a plan to gain FAA and EASA acceptance of in-process monitoring. 🔦 The report sheds light on the limitations of present monitoring technologies, particularly because of their inability to reliably correlate indications with defects. Consequently, post-process destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) remains a necessary step, with unsolved issues related to delays and increasing costs, hindering widespread adoption of aviation parts manufactured with AM. 🔗 To address these challenges, the industry requires additional monitoring technologies capable of providing evidence regarding defects. Despite the need for innovation, constraints such as limited financial resources and production volume hinder the development of alternative physical principles for monitoring in metal AM machines. 👉 AMiquam is leading the way by integrating in-situ electromagnetic NDT systems, an established technique of the metal industry, with a first small scale sensor array already deployed in production context (TRL 7). While this application cannot serve as a standalone part certification solution today, it already significantly enhances existing monitoring technologies by offering crucial subsurface and material quality information thereby bolstering part qualification. 📣 Looking ahead, our future large sensor array (TRL 4) sets the stage for in-process part certification. Provided that stress and part distortion can be demonstrated to remain within defined limits, this approach represents a promising pathway toward safe and efficient part certification in metal AM. 💡 In summary, the report highlights the community's hope for the future use of in-situ process monitoring to approve a component in the coming years. There's no better expression of our company's mission than our commitment to fulfilling this hope. 🤝 Join us as we continue to pave the way toward a future of safer, more efficient, and more reliable aerospace components. #MetalAM #AviationInnovation #NDTTechnologies #AMiquam #LinkedInNews #FAA #EASA #astm https://lnkd.in/ekwTNBMq

We start enthusiastically with our new project at the MEGT | Lehrstuhl für Maschinenelemente, Getriebe und Tribologie: FVA 551 IV! Here we are researching dirt-impacted rotary shaft seals (RSS) and developing an #FVA guideline for interested companies in the industry. RSS #reliability in heavily dust polluted environments is essential to prevent costly failures. Up to now, a general test #guideline for RSS in such environments is lacking. In the preceding projects FVA 551 I-III, we have already conducted important examinations and developed a demanding standard test cycle. Now we want to consolidate and utilize this knowledge, transfer application-specific conditions to a representative test cycle and make the results available in the form of an FVA guideline. We are pleased that our new research assistant Olaf Grutza will take on this project from now on. Thanks to FVA Forschungsvereinigung Antriebstechnik for funding this project. Stay tuned for more updates! #ResearchForSustainability #tribology #RSS #guideline #MEGT #FVA

Competition Time! Win a mystery weekend away worth $1,000. I've had a few #New_Zealand engineers expressing their disappointment at being excluded from this competition. Where's the #ANZAC spirit. I'm therefore opening it up for those across the ditch to also give it a go. Reminder: A short, fat fibre may give you more fibres per cube, but the effective length of reinforcement is significantly less than that of a longer, thinner fibre. The same is true for two fibres that are the same length but have different diameters. For example, we know that a 0.75mm diameter fibre that's 60mm long (80/60) has 30% more fibres per cube than a 0.9mm diameter fibre of the same length (0960), but what is the difference in the length of reinforcement? To enter the draw to win a $1,000 mystery weekend away, simply calculate the length of reinforcing (m/m3) for the three fibre types below and email your answers to sean@bosfa.com with "Length of Reinforcing" in the subject line. This competition is open to Aussies and Kiwis only. All correct answers will be entered into the draw, and the winner will be randomly selected using Random-Name-Picker on the 1/12/23. The video of the draw will be shared via LinkedIn.
