This Memorial Day, we’d like to honor all the brave souls throughout history who dedicated their lives to defending our country. As part of Stride Tutoring’s U.S. history curriculum, students learn about the conflicts that shaped our nation, from the American Revolution to World War II and beyond. But memorizing dates of battles, names of leaders, and locations of critical events isn’t enough. The beating heart of history lies in understanding the “why” behind the “when” and “where.” The ideals driving the American Revolution. The atrocities of World War II. The attacks that incited the Iraq War. Historical events like these demand more than surface-level learning—and that’s where Stride tutors step in. Through personalized online tutoring sessions, we help students explore the meaning behind the historical events that define our nation’s past. This way, on Memorial Day, they can truly understand what American soldiers were fighting for—and what this day means to us all. Check out my latest article regarding Prior Learning Assessments (PLA). An important strategy to consider in higher education that can be applied to most industries and disciplines. Over the past year, I've also had the privilege to serve on a USCG team with Mark Pearson, Tim Quiram, C.P.T., DASM, and Brian Penoyer to design the implementation of PLA across the entire organization. #uscg Thoughts? Dr. Bob Habib serves as an Instructional Systems Specialist for the Department of Homeland Security where he develops training policy for the US Coast Guard, as well as a professor for the School of Business & Leadership at Regent University. Prior to coming to Regent and the USCG, he served as a teacher for Virginia Beach Public Schools and was an instructional designer for mid and senior-level leadership courses for the DoD and DHS. As a military veteran, he has spent many years developing strategic partnerships with educational institutions and veteran service organizations nationwide to promote the professional, academic, and personal success of veterans and their families. Let's read his recent article and learn about the simplicity of prior learning assessments. #PriorLearningAssessments #CreditWhereDue #RecognizingExperience #LearningRecognition #SkillsAssessment #AccreditationValidation #LifelongLearning #EducationEquity #KnowledgeRecognition #AlternativePathways #ValidatingExperience #RethinkingEducation #LearningJourney #UpskillingOpportunities #CompetencyAssessment https://lnkd.in/gFHw9gkJ

Dream: A seed of greatness. " I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together." - Martin Luther King Jr. So, do the Afara Initiatives have a dream that, with diligent efforts, tailored learning, and proper mentorship. They can build indomitable groups of young people who will trailblaze in every facet of life irrespective of the challenges. I believe these noble notions made them establish The Bridge Program, where young and unique undergraduates are transformed into pacesetters, champions, and global personalities. So every year, The Afara Initiative takes in half of a hundred students into a yearly cohort, known as The Bridge Program (TBP). This year was no exception, TBP took in 60 undergraduates to participate in the 2023 cohort with the theme : On your mark Set… Global!. I was lucky to be among the 2023 cohort that went through experiential learning. Just like the theme suggested, the TBP birth in me and my cohort mates, the gift of dreaming big, fuelling the dreams with hard work, professional networking, and a sense of satisfaction through the positive changes made along the way. You might want to ask what experiential learning you undergo within the 14 days at the TBP. After a two-week of intensive program, I realized the platter is set for me to go Global. Stay with me, as I recount my 14 days of experiences at TBP boot camp for the next 14 days. Remember to Dream Big: Big Dreams will take you to Mars.

Everything from PE credit, to leadership or technical classes (depending on what schools you've been to) might just be sitting in your Joint Services Transcript(JST)! It may also be a good way to get into a prestigious school because you might be able to come in as a transfer student, which can sometimes be easier and it might be as simple as taking your JST to a local community college and seeing how many credit hours you have! Some credits count for graduate coursework, too! Check it out at http://jst.dod.mil/ ! #veteranshelpingveterans #transitioningveterans #veteransuccess

At Varce Girls' Learning Hub, our primary objective is to empower girls by equipping them with digital skills. However, we go beyond mere technical education. Our curriculum integrates subjects like civic education, fostering critical discussions on justice, the rule of law, and societal resilience. We are proud to have used a portion of Civics Academy online material into our curriculum. We don't just teach digital literacy; we cultivate civic literacy, critical thinking, and a strong sense of civic responsibility. This holistic approach is fundamental in shaping responsible citizens who can confront challenges and drive positive change in their communities. we empower the next generation to think critically, engage meaningfully, and contribute positively to society. We measure success not just in academic achievements but also in the increased civic engagement, leadership skills, and community impact demonstrated by our students. Varce Girls' Learning Hub is not just about imparting knowledge; it's about cultivating empowered, compassionate, and socially responsible leaders of tomorrow. #civic #varcegirlslearninghub #education
