❓𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵𝘆 (𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲) 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝘁𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀? When will we start actually changing the systems? We create a lot of solutions for people that look good, but fail to make a difference. Beautiful initiatives, programs and events that put on the performance of new thinking and bold steps. But end up being small band-aids on profound challenges - at best. It’s a problem. When we’re stuck in ticking boxes and improving processes - achieving our desired impact is hard…if not impossible. Office yoga-classes don’t change our state of wellbeing. Yearly awards ceremonies don’t actually do anything for motivation and morale. One off trainings don’t actually help us improve our behaviours. UNLESS… They are also supported by structures, routines and systems that point us in the same direction. And I keep hearing it everywhere. This frustration of doing work to do work. This desire to actually change something for the better. Obviously, I love asking questions and creating conversation - I’m a “Wonderer” after all. But to make these changes we also have to dare to ACT differently. Some of the most useful shifts in thought and action I work with are going… ❌ From: Deciding based on opinion and assumption 💚 To: Empathising shaping insight to stake a path. ❌ From: Jumping to solutions 💚 To: Framing challenges ❌ From: Long term plans and short term thinking. 💚 To: Long term visions and plans in the present. ❌ From: Initiatives at scale. 💚 To: Scaleable initiatives. ❌ From: Looking for new and shiny 💚 To: Better leveraging what we already have. We know he knows cars but we're big fans of the fact that Jeremy Clarkson also knows a thing or two about employee engagement and ownership culture now too! The newest season of Clarkson’s Farm dropped on to Prime Video & Amazon Studios over the weekend and it looks like Jeremy Clarkson has taken a leaf from our play book ⬇ Looking for new ways to increase profits 📈 on the farm, Jeremy promotes his tractor driver Kaleb to Farm Manager, putting him in charge of running the arable farmland while Jeremy runs new projects on the “wilder” pockets of the farm. The pair keep tally of their efforts – tracking profit and loss on a basic scoreboard on a whiteboard in the office, and the prospect of sharing in the gains sees both parties implement a number of cost saving and income generating initiatives. ✅ This is a great case study in the application and power of employee incentives in building an ownership culture within a business. While we’re yet to see the end of this plan play out (the second part of the new series will be available to Australian viewers on Friday 10 May), we can hazard a guess at the results. 💡 Companies with a strong culture of ownership outperform their counterparts by 47% in revenue growth and 200% in net income growth 💥 ESOPs, ASOPs, Equity, Incentive Plans - the truth is that there are a number of ways you can implement employee incentives as a tool for creating engagement and fostering an ownership culture, with or without providing actual physical ownership in your business.
