Broadcast (and seasonality) Strikes Back, thanks to the NFL. As expected, football drove viewership of broadcast up 13%, from 20% in Aug to 23% in Sept, per Nielsen. A bit off the 24.2% from last Sept as Streaming grew nearly 6% YoY. Interesting break outs by demo: 📺 Broadcast viewing among 12-17 year-olds increased 26% (albeit from a small base) 📺 Streaming usage among 12-17 year-olds declined 19% 📺 Cable viewing among 12-17 year-olds declined 15% 📺 Broadcast viewing among 18-49 year-olds increased by 35% 📺 Broadcast viewing among 25-54 year-olds increased by almost 33% Sports programming on cable is up nearly 26% MoM with more reinforcements on the way - the NBA and NHL seasons start and MLB World Series is coming up in the next few weeks. And on the flip side, YT's percentage of total viewshare took a hit even as their NFL Sunday Ticket quickly surpassed DirectTV's total subscriber numbers.
