Being educated and aware of Stroke symptoms can help save a life.
For Hayden Homes , the impact of stroke is personal (their story via link below). In 2023 Hayden Homes presented a check to SAO for $100,000 representing a four-year commitment of funding to the organization. As a Stroke Awareness Oregon Board Member, our board and executive team are grateful to Hayden Homes, title sponsor, for their support of SAO helping bring Randy and Mary Travis to Central Oregon. “This event is a chance to raise awareness and much-needed funds to help prevent others from being impacted or losing their loved ones to the heartbreaking effects of stroke," said Deborah Flagan , vice president of community engagement and giving with Hayden Homes. Director and Lecturer, MA in Archives & Records Management. Research interests: participatory, creative and trauma-informed approaches to recordkeeping particularly in health and social care contexts.
We have come to the end of the trauma-informed approaches module and so the focus for our last session together has been to learn from organisations that take a holistic whole-organisation approach to embedding trauma-informed principles. Debra Doggett from the Planned Environment Therapy Trust Archive provided us with a really powerful and empowering example of what can be done by demonstrating how the trauma-informed approach of the charity in which PETTA is based infuses through the archive service too. So exciting to see their approach to supervising staff; putting feelings at the centre of team discussion; prioritising reflexive practice, discussion and spaces; enabling creative and healing responses to the archive and developing trauma-informed policy and procedures for every aspect of archive work. Such an inspiring way to end the module, and so much good practice here that we can all learn from

Excited to announce we have secured a community grant from the lottery fund! What went on behind the scenes of getting this grant, was me applying not once, not twice but FOUR times before being successful. My application was rejected due to me not paying attention to smaller details which were flagged during the screening or not having my paperwork in order before deadlines. I say this to highlight the extra barriers that come along with having ADHD and creating a community that is by us for us. Set backs like this can be so disheartening and the difficulties sustaining steady income is the reason many grassroots equity led organisations have to dissolve. Our hope is that eventually, we will not have to be so reliant on grants that take up a lot of mental strain and time that we could be investing into our community. We have started this journey by: 1) Launching our membership with an Ubuntu model (scaled between £2-20 with all perks equal so babes can access care on at a price that is affordable) 2) Assessing our services and offers as an organisation (workshops, consultancy, research) 3) Launching our own fundraiser and celebration event! https://gofund.me/c54f6fef If you haven't already, please do check out our fundraiser and come down to our 3 year celebration on 31st of this month where we will be celebrating: Three Years of Black Babe Magic! https://lnkd.in/enjwAC6Y
We have good news! We have been one of the recipients of the Lottery Community Fund and will be using the grant to fund our outreach project! Thank you The National Lottery Community Fund for believing in our community, we have already been able to utilise the fund with our first pottery class which was a huge success. Excited to keep creating safer spaces for Black Women & Non-binary folk with ADHD to come together in community 💖

**Riding with Purpose: Wonders & Worries and the MS 150 Journey** Recently, I had the privilege of cycling 150 miles with the Tacodeli team in the MS 150. The event, hosted by the National MS Society, is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is a serious illness, and Wonders & Worries' mission is to help kids who have a parent with a serious illness or injury. With the overlap between these two organizations, this ride held special significance. Every turn of the pedal reminded me of the resilience and strength of the families W&W serves. MS is a relentless illness, and so is the spirit of our children at Wonders & Worries. By participating in MS 150, I aimed to bridge the gap between the fight against MS and the support for children impacted by any serious illness. The funds and awareness raised through this event testify to what we can achieve together. I ride for hope. I ride for strength. I ride for the children of Wonders & Worries, who inspire us daily. Let's continue to pedal forward, creating a world where no child has to face the uncertainty of a parent's serious illness alone. #MS150 #WondersAndWorries #TeamTacoDeli #RidingForACause #MultipleSclerosisAwareness
