This is an intriguing trend... Cable Contraction In 1980, the number of households with pay-TV subscriptions including cable, satellite, and telecom firms totaled 20 million. By 1989 it was 50 million, in 2000 it surpassed 75 million, and the peak was 100 million between 2009-2014. Since then, it’s steadily declined. In 23Q3, it was almost 75 million, however that number includes 20 million internet-TV providers including YouTube TV, Sling TV, and others. Cable erosion has been staggering.

This market research provides insight into the UK consumer's pay-TV and broadband consumption and preferences in the context of an increasingly competitive full fibre network provider sector with a wealth of online video and TV content offerings readily available. Very interesting - as I was reading this before I read the conclusion I wondered if what we’re seeing is TV being used to sweeten FTTP offers? The aim of which to move customers from copper, renew contracts and secure customers in new FTTP enabled areas. That could explain the modest increase in bandwidth and the uptake in bundled TV. Difficult to know without seeing the ARPU over time across the base.
