Last year, Event Vision:2025 published a detailed briefing – Festival Industry Materials and Waste – that not only provides a comprehensive picture of waste challenges experienced by event organisers but also outlines recommendations that will help event professionals make progress on sustainable waste management. The report (authored by Vision 2025, Julie's Bicycle’s, and Resource Futures) and the briefing (by Julie’s Bicycle and Vision 2025) are elements of a three-phase plan that aims to help organisers shape future waste strategies and best practices. At the time, Julie’s Bicycle’s Richard Phillips, a climate change specialist, told StandOut that the report highlighted a huge disconnect between the expectations of festival managers and waste contractors; especially between what organisers think happens to waste and what actually happens. Furthermore, he urged organisers to think about a materials policy that bans problematic materials like disposable vapes, and then think about waste separation. Now, the British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA) is urging festival organisers to follow Glastonbury’s lead and introduce an outright ban on all disposable vapes. New figures show blazes linked to batteries used in the vapes are rising. Hence, the BMRA says more needs to be done. What are you doing about waste and disposable vapes on your event sites? Concerts are notorious for generating excessive waste, including plastic containers and foam coolers. To address this environmental concern, musicians, festivals, and venues are taking steps to make concerts more eco-friendly. They are incorporating compost and recycling bins, manually sorting through debris, and replacing non-recyclable products with paper alternatives. Paper goods such as cardboard recycling bins, food containers, cups, Tetra Pak cartons, coolers, and tents are being used to balance the desire for live performances with the goal of reducing the environmental impact. This shift towards paper products reflects the increasing consumer demand for sustainability in the music industry. Discover more about how paper products are helping high-voltage concerts become sustainable 👇🏻 https://lnkd.in/eRyBW_2H #concerts #sustainability #paper #environment #recycling

Summertime is in full swing, with open-air concerts, festivals, and gatherings. While we're out there enjoying the sun, let's also remember to care for our planet. Trivium’s Greg Mucha points out how plastic waste from our drinks and snacks can really pile up, leaving us with a lot of hard-to-recycle waste. Fortunately, this is where metal packaging can step right in! It's light, won't shatter like glass, and, best of all, it can be recycled again and again. So, let's get out there, have fun, and make a difference with our choices. #WeContainWhatMatters #sustainablepackaging #beverageindustry #beveragepackaging

Today, Trianon Scientific Communication is going to #tomorrowland, to see #lovetomorrowconference. But as we are getting ready to take the train, I wonder what is the global CO2 emissions of a festival like #tomorrowland. It is expected that 150,000 persons will be present at the festival. - In average, each person will generate 2kg of waste a day. Knowing that in 2020, each Belgian was responsible for less than 1.5kg of municipal waste a day, this is a lot! - In total, 46,000 Global Journey packages were sold to individuals of 133 nationalities, added to travels of the artists, the staff, and other attendees, travelling represents 72% of the global footprint of the festival. - And then, add energy, food, water... And you have a global CO2 emissions of 150 000 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐎2. It is 2.5% emissions reduction required by Belgium by 2030. - 𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘢 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘭 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸, 𝘑𝘶𝘭𝘺 2023 Is there any solutions? - The obvious in mind: green your venue, use renewable energy sources, use recyclable containers, offer more vegetarian snacks... - Maybe it is also time to change the business model of festivals and instead of festival/plane tickets offer festival/car pooling tickets or festival/train tickets. It will make it a more local thing for sure, but till the #aviation manages to become less impactful for the #environment, do we have the choice? In 2021, Coldplay announced a 12-point plan to cut the carbon footprint of touring by 50%. Now, they've given an update on their progress, saying the first two years of their Music of the Spheres tour saw a 59% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared with their previous world tour. They have used things like a dancefloor that generates electricity when fans jump up and down, and have cut down on air travel. They have also revealed that seven million saplings have been planted as part of a commitment to grow a tree for every fan attending the shows. New figures suggest, external the tour has become more efficient as it progresses. Among the developments, 72% of tour waste was diverted from landfill and sent for reuse, recycling and composting - up from 66% in 2023. They said the figures had been assessed and verified by the environmental solutions initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). ##renewableenergy #environment #sustainability #climatechange #education #nature #reuse #reduce https://lnkd.in/ebvsZU9R
