Happy Friday Community! Wow. Wow. Wow. Congrats Patrick Payne and PopCandi on 1 Year in business! 9 months ago I was staring down what still is today a daunting and unpleasant talent market. I was newly jobless with a family to support and feeling like a part of my identity had magically dissolved. In a time that for me, and for so many can cause a great deal of anxiety, stress and discomfort PopCandi gave me the opportunity to bring new professional passions forward and love back for Talent Acquisition in a way that had been missing for quite some time! 9 months later being able to coach others through difficult hiring waters to land their next opportunity while also continuing to connect and bring great talent to leaders across industries has taught me quite a bit about myself, business and the true value of candidate and client experience. Happy Monday Everyone! I'm approaching my 6 year anniversary with MERJE next month (and 16 years in recruitment). As I reflect on the past 16 years, it's a journey filled with twists, turns, and a fair share of surprises! Back in 2008, I ventured into the world of recruitment when Katherine Tiddy took a chance on me after what I can only describe as a horrendous and shocking 2nd interview. (In my defence I thought my 1st interview with Natalie Adams and Jen Parker was ace!) Two years later, and after a few wines at the Christmas party, I found the courage to ask Kath why she hired me despite that dreadful second interview, and her response was simple- she saw something in me and how right she was to take a punt on me. Over the next decade, I had the privilege of working with incredible individuals who shaped my understanding of the industry. It was a decade of learning, growth, and discovering my niche. However, life took an exciting turn six years ago when I joined MERJE. Neil Johns entrusted me with developing the Front-Line Talent Team, and these past six years have been nothing short of phenomenal. Looking back, I never envisioned a career in recruitment. My childhood dream was to become a Children's TV presenter, but took an unexpected detour when my parents signed me up for a hospitality and catering course (thanks mum!)!! In every recruitment business, there are highs and lows, mistakes and triumphs. Yet, I stand here with immense pride, having spent 16 years in the game and proudly affiliated with only two agencies. Not many recruiters can boast such longevity these days. Fast forward to today, next month marks my 6 year anniversary with MERJE, an organisation that has been a pivotal part of my professional journey. At a recent networking event, I was dubbed "Sally - the friendly recruiter," and I must say, I quite like it! In the world of talent acquisition, cool things happen when we keep it real. I hope this story can serve as a guide for fellow TAs to elevate their game by prioritizing credibility, and transparency over the relentless pursuit of a hard sell. Recently, one of my candidates has expressed doubts about the role, and given me a list of reasons as to why it isn't a great fit. Deep down, I wasn't ready to give up yet, but I knew that respecting his perspective was more important than filling this role. So, instead of a hard sell, I took a moment to embrace this candidate's perspectives and I simply said at the end of our conversation.... "I'm sorry that this opportunity does not align with your expectations, but I will be happy to keep in touch for future opportunities." And, wished him the best! But the story doesn't here. Today, this candidate not only appreciated the honesty but reciprocated our conversation with more referrals and has opened the door for me to build new connections. 😯 In a surprising turn of events, the ripple effect of our authentic exchange extended beyond our initial connection. This candidate, now turned advocate, went above and beyond by actively recommending our career opportunities to his professional network. 😭 It's a reminder that every connection, no matter how small, has the power to catalyze a network of support and collaboration. #UnexpectedOpportunities #AuthenticConnections #BuildingNetworks

I’m extremely excited and thankful to share that next week I’m joining a company with a mission near-and-dear to my heart! I’m joining the Sidecar Health team as a Talent Acquisition Partner and I'm honored to be able to help them achieve their mission of making healthcare affordable and more accessible for everyone. 🏥 ❤️ This process moved very quickly and I’m still pinching myself to make sure it’s real...Everyone I’ve connected with so far has been so authentic, caring, and made me feel comfortable right away. It only furthered my confidence and excitement in joining this company! For all job seekers, here is a tip that helped me stand out in this market: Always follow up on your applications with a hiring manager or anyone you know that could connect you with the hiring team. This isn’t something I leveraged in the past and it landed me a role I'm thrilled about in less than two weeks. Every little extra effort adds up. It doesn’t need to be an elaborate message, just take the time to express your interest, follow up on your application, and share why you'd be a great fit for the role. This can be done in 3-6 sentences and there are plenty of tools out there to help you find someone’s email address (I used Hunter.io). No, you won’t get a response from everyone, but as Wayne Gretzky said, “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.“ All it takes is one person to give you a chance. Keep going, believe in yourself, and do what you can to stand out. Fun fact, my previous 2 jobs before HelloFresh, I got it through networking. I get the sense of how important networking since I was in college. I want to know who are people that involve in the industry I am passionate about, Talent Acquisition, and I start join event in similar industry, get to know many people and build genuine connection with them (not only when you need it). Time flies, I did not only grow my connection with similar background people but I start expand it to different level and field, even until CEO level from diverse size of company. It was hard in the beginning because you simply don't know what to talked and me personally I usually have anxiety I will ended up come up with something stupid or embarrassing myself. No, do not afraid about that because what people want see is your authentic self and what is your aspiration and your interest. The more you practice about it the more you will be confident.
