Good morning! It’s a common pathway for many successful professionals to start their careers in entry-level positions, like seasonal sales associates, and work their way up. This approach offers several advantages: 1. Skill Development: Starting at the bottom allows individuals to build a strong foundation of skills and knowledge about the business from the ground up. 2. Experience: Hands-on experience in various roles provides valuable insights into the operational aspects of a company, which is crucial for effective leadership. 3. Credibility and Respect: Working through different levels of an organization can earn respect from peers and subordinates, as leaders who have “been there” are often more relatable and understanding. 4. Networking: Starting in entry-level positions helps in building relationships and networking within the company, which can be beneficial for career advancement. 5. Understanding the Culture: It gives a deeper understanding of the company culture and values, which is essential for making informed and effective decisions at higher levels. For those eager to climb the career ladder, it’s important to recognize the value of these foundational experiences and be patient and diligent in their professional growth. Let's talk job titles 💭 In my role at VMA GROUP, I get to speak to so many of you over the phone 📞, over coffees ☕, and over trusty Teams 💻. It's always so insightful to hear what jobs you're applying to and why ⁉ But what do I notice? Job titles are complicated 😵 and when you don't know what the role pays either, you have the full range of entry-senior level talent applying, which makes the hiring process a bit of a minefield. It might say 'Manager' when you're not really managing, it might say 'Lead' when you're not really leading, it might say 'Head of' when you're not really heading! What are your thoughts? 🤔 P.s., if you're #hiring for your #communications teams and struggling to find the right title and the right person, we can definitely help you with this!

We had four leaders at one time in my life—Madanin, Nahim, Ato, and Me—reporting to our supervisor. Our supervisor had to step down from the company at one point, so Madanin had to take over as our manager. I was all for him. I appreciated his authority and offered my honest assessment of the situation. We got along well and worked effectively together. One of my subordinates, Kofi, departed our unit and joined another during my tenure as a lead. We started working together in the same department a few years later. I was the one reporting to him this time. It's funny, huh? But I accepted his authority and offered my honest assessment of the matter. We collaborated wonderfully. He even succeeded in getting me recognized as the 2021 Best Executive (Service Experience) recipient. He had to push me into taking on a permanent post that he was managing since he had another opportunity in a different area. Together, we produced some excellent work for the firm. One thing my background may have taught me early in life is how to work under others. I think this is a helpful skill that you should learn, regardless of your level of experience and education. You see, while we could all reach the pinnacle at some point, it won't happen to all of us on the same day. Thus, give someone a hand when it's their turn today. When you get there, you'll need help as well. #UsefulContent #linkedin #power #work #hiring #innovation #opportunities #trendingonlinkedin #Success #Advertising

Executive Career Coach for Senior Leaders in Technology, Healthcare, Energy, Finance, Data Science | Career Change + Professional Advancement | Leadership Development | Get back to your best self + do your best work
PART 2 of 2: Have you ever wandered supermarket aisles looking for something to satiate a craving? We do this with jobs, too. Go to the 'job title' or 'industry narrative' supermarket and wonder why nothing feels right. Surely security and competence, the guarantee of future safety in an unstable marketplace should be enough? “Yeah sure, I’d love to feel fulfilled” we reason, “but what does that even mean? How do I job search that? I can’t afford to be naive, idealistic, I have to put food on the table.” So we chase another Fortune 500 brand, feel chained to the next expected professional advancement, and say Yes when we want to flee. Having fulfillment AND professional advancement isn’t idealism. For many - it’s realism. And not to be too on-the-nose, but… That’s what I do. I combine strategic job seeking tactics, re-order them, add a dose of what’s missing - and help senior leaders 🔎 clarify and find 🔍 fulfilling next-level career opportunities. The one you can't find on the supermarket shelf. The one that never makes it into the supermarket. The one that belongs to you. Part 1 is here: https://lnkd.in/ezHcBDeU #executivecoach #jobsatisfaction #careerchange __________ If you're a senior / exec and would like to talk through a professional change you're considering, dm me. We'll have a zero pressure conversation, and you'll leave with clarity about next steps. -- early morning cuppa coffee -- [apologies for the super dark photo!]
