Quentin Scrimshire and Dr Alex O'Cinneide discussed optimal battery duration, fall in GB revenues and market optimisation among a number of topics. It is valuable to listen to the insights of one of the top players of the industry. My favourite quote: "Energy storage is an amazing asset class, but it's complex. Where is the energy storage industry going and what will be important as the industry scales up? I usually don't post a lot of Fluence things, but the SunCast Podcast of NICO JOHNSON 🎙️ with our SVP John Zahurancik is really great, as its messages go beyond Fluence and our work, but about what is important for the industry to scale. What are the key elements: - Safety: We need to build save systems, which do not put people in harm. I like John's description of our Fluence beyond burning test, as hell-test, burn the hell out of our systems. First priority for our industry must be safety. On the flipside, seeing battery fires is not good for the industry as it will strengthen local opposition against BESS. - Investment Certainty: Why are we talking about local value chains, why are we talking about technology and industry experience and strong teams in the regions and countries with experience to troubleshoot everything that may come? Because it helps to deploy capital on time. Simple as that. As energy storage scales up and becomes an investment class, investments into energy storage must be save. No delays allowed. This requires de-risking for our customers, and we are good at it. - SATA: Using Storage-as-Transmission-Assets is the next step in the evolution of value that our industry can bring to the energy system. Using storage to overcome grid congestion should be a no brainer. Obviously, it's a special bonus for John to refer to Europe and to our German TSO customers TransnetBW GmbH and TenneT TSO GmbH, and out Lithuanian customer Energy Cells for leading the global industry on this.
