Memo to: Ministers of Education and Directors of Education in Canada We need a similar Bill in every province in Canada, but this will require true leadership and courage. We need to ensure that our children are immersed in outdoor and experiential programs. Less screen time and more outdoor time is healthier for our children. Yes, there will be cost for this kind of programming, but it is worth every penny. There is so much research to support an initiative like this. #outdooreducation #ministryofeducation #experientiallearning
We’re on manoeuvres… Last week we pitched our proverbial tanks (or shall we say tents?) on the lawn of decision makers. Our demands? Pretty straightforward: That residential outdoor learning should be part of our Curriculum. The need has always been there, but post-pandemic it’s even more pressing. And with the emergence of the Outdoor Ed Bills in Scotland, Wales and England it could become a reality… At The Outward Bound Trust we’ve begun gearing up to do everything we can to support these Bills. ‘An outdoor residential for every child’ is our war cry… but it’s not the catchiest of slogans (don’t worry, we’re working on it). In the meantime we’re making a battle plan and mapping out some key milestones, messages and moments to raise awareness of the campaign. But this is so much bigger than Outward Bound, so we’re definitely going to need some help… If you are able to lend your voice, talent energy or ideas (or know someone who might), please do drop me a line. We’re just getting started Onwards and upwards! ⛰️ #OutdoorEducation #OutwardBound #Education #JournoRequest #Residential #School 📸 Base Brown, the Lake District, August 2022

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we remember the dark mark Canadian residential schools left on our past and present. As we move towards reconciliation, we must engage with Indigenous points of view and work together for a brighter Canadian future. #NationalDayForTruthAndReconciliation #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters

"To many people in New Jersey, it is an article of faith that every town is a castle, that home rule gives more than 600 local governments the unassailable right to control their own turf. But when you turn to the housing market, unfettered home rule is a curse to this state and always has been." Learn more at NJ Education Report: Local Control or School Integration? QUESTION: Why does the district need to re-build more schools? ANSWER: Keeping 55 school buildings safe, modern and ready for growth requires a long-range, phased approach to re-building and updating our schools. District leaders anticipated the need to gradually construct new, replace or update aging school buildings 20 years ago, and set out on a long-range plan that continues today. Many of the projects on the 2024 bond, the latest phase in this ongoing plan, are for schools that are 60 to more than 100 years old. With more than 55 buildings to maintain for approximately 29,000 students and 5,000 staff, the district’s phased approach addresses the needs of the district and keeps tax bills stable. This process is explored in further depth in a video at https://lnkd.in/dTPP5V6M. More Frequently Asked Questions about the bond and levy can be found at https://lnkd.in/gF5VyEXC. If you have questions that haven’t been addressed, please reach out at bit.ly/SPSContactUs so we can make sure your question is answered. The bond and levy will be presented to voters on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Remember to vote. https://lnkd.in/g7d4TKvF

Keir Starmer says the government's handling of the RAAC situation "is descending into a farce". I tend to AGREE ! I will give you MY take on this, might be wrong, I don't believe it is: 1) 2018 part of a ceiling collapses in a school, RAAC now on the DfE. agenda 2) 2019 DfE commission 'Condition Survey' which in part highlights worst condition schools (inc. RAAC schools) in most urgent need of demo and rebuild. 3) 1st waves of the 2021 School rebuilding programme target RAAC schools, but only 24 out of 84 have had contracts placed as of June 23. (If the programme had been run competently the issue may only be half as bad as current). 4) Consultancies 'M' and 'A' appointed by DfE to survey schools early 2023, reporting on RAAC present. Not full R&D surveys, not intrusive into the RAAC beam's to establish THE actual condition. 5) DfE ask consultancies to state, putting 'PI' on the line that the schools are safe. In my mind NO consultancy in its right mind can state any 60 yr. old building is '100%' safe. 6) And NOW Panic now grasps DfE. 7) Late July 23 DfE via CCS send out enquiries for temp accommodation, and sit on returns for 3 to 4 weeks, placing first temp building contracts this wk. 8) Late Aug 23 DfE tells schools to close, (weeks after it sent out temp accommodation enquiries - odd that, I would have told the schools first). 9) Still no public understanding of the 'new information' that keeps on being mentioned. I hope I've got the time line wrong, happy to be told publicly I have. What about the rest of the public estate? hospitals, courts, custodial, library's, DwP.... and then there is the rest of the Union. Were ministers in Ireland, Scotland and Wales briefed before this became public? not by me reading of the press reports. I think Gillian Keegan had it right when she swore today after an interview, this is a '****ing' Farce! (only my personal views of course). https://lnkd.in/eQgfnSFk
