Over the past few weeks, I’ve been posting about how Governance enables successful adoption of AI. But the conversation really isn’t about AI or any specific capability: It’s about your organization’s resiliency and ability to evaluate and onboard new capabilities into your toolkit. Whether that capability is AI-driven or something else, leading companies are able to leverage their governance functions in order to: 1. Set guardrails for experimentation and adoption early. Your legal and ethics teams should have a framework for experimenting with new and emerging capabilities that ensure mitigated risk and assurances to your customers and employees alike. 2. Identify business problems to be solved. No technology should be adopted for its own sake. Your innovation team should be pinpointing key organizational needs and evaluating your ability to solve these with existing and new technologies. 3. Evaluate and onboard new capabilities. Many organizations lose ground when it comes to onboarding new capabilities. Have clear processes and governance in place to make sure you can clearly meet standards for security, compliance, enterprise architecture, and other requirements. 4. Define success criteria for testing and application. Once live, have clear measures and processes  in place to evaluate the potential of new capabilities to serve as an effective way to solve for key business problems. 5. Train and enable your user base. A dedicated change management function that helps establish the “how” and the “why” for IT and business stakeholders. 6. Expand and adopt new features and functionality to fit expanding use cases. Once past the early adoption stage, product managers or similar roles within your organization should work to understand how to expand usage based on current offerings and roadmap items provided by your partner. 7. Manage run state and ensure performance as you scale. Appropriately scale and train your team to run self-sufficiently as possible. When an organization can take advantage of these structures, they can quickly understand and evaluate the potential for new technologies, be early adopters, and accelerate value realization. Dealing with healthcare institutions is very slow. They are big and complex, navigating through regulations and local laws they have a hard time giving a great service to their users.
