National University of Singapore in the Top League of Universities globally Sincere congratulations to NUS for this fantastic achievement. A strong testament that the investments in education in general and tertiary education in specific are paying off for Singapore. Looking at the scores in specific criteria of this ranking it is not astonishing that NUS scores highly in employment outcomes as there is a severe crunch for talent in Singapore and NUS students and especially local talents are sought after by employees. It is also not astonishing to see that the global employer reputation is fairly weak (only 54th globally), given their short history in the top ranks. Citations per faculty (i.e. the research impact) are even lower at 64th rank. This seems to indicate that there still is more emphasis on learning and being able to understand / repeat subject matter than on actual research; or is it simply too early days for NUS’ research to be noticed and commented on globally? What is your experience with graduates from Universities in Singapore? The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings evaluate aspects such as research environment, academic teaching, and institutional reputation. Maintaining its position from last year, NTU Singapore is the only Singapore university in the rankings. Nanyang Technological University Singapore President Professor Ho Teck Hua said: “As a young institution, we have been able to move quickly and make bold decisions to push the frontiers of research and education. Breaking the ceiling or gaming the system? NUS retains its 8th place in the QS World University Rankings 2025, and NTU leaps to 15th. But let's pause and think. 🤔 Are these rankings truly a testament to excellence, or just a game of metrics? With academic reputation, employer reputation, and citations per faculty making up 65% of the score, are we favoring the old guards over fresh, innovative institutions? Sure, the new focus on sustainability sounds fantastic. But is it a genuine shift or a strategic play to score higher? And why do US and UK universities still dominate? interesting that #NUS, my alma mater, is ranked 8th in the world in this set of rankings. 3rd in Asia too in the latest rankings. interesting also the university my son graduated from in 2021 entered for the first time at #128 but SUTD isn't what you'd term a 'full' university. As a dad, I hope he goes further in his career than me but there are more important measures of success like health, compassion, generosity and being useful to those in your circle. While SUTD may be ranked lowest among the 4 well-known Singapore universities, it is a young university of only 12yrs. it does have a track record of a large % of its graduating cohort gaming full-time employment soon after graduating and often with a starting salary higher than the other universities for similar degrees. UTP has recorded a phenomenal jump, now placed at 307th, climbing an impressive 54 spots from its previous position of 361. The National University of Singapore (NUS) retained its top-10 spot in the QS World University Rankings 2025, holding eighth place. Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU) re-entered the top 20, rising to 15th from 26th in 2024. NUS remains the highest-ranked Asian university, the first from the region to reach the top 10. The QS rankings, featuring 1,500 universities from 106 countries, are led by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Imperial College London, University of Oxford, Harvard University, University of Cambridge, Stanford University, and ETH Zürich. https://lnkd.in/gKQVDnPR The rankings are based on nine indicators, with the highest weight given to academic reputation, citations per faculty, and employer reputation. NUS excelled in these areas and in sustainability. NTU’s rise was driven by improvements in employer reputation and sustainability. "To be ranked in the top 15 shows that despite being a young university, NTU is internationally competitive," he said.
