Retail feels like the underbelly of society. People forget you're a person and treat you however they want. They don't see the person. They just see the uniform. When I used to work in retail/service, I can't tell you how many times people called me names or made big deals out of *literally* trivial things. Working retail/service is HARD. Hiring Managers know this, because we've all been there at one point or another. ALWAYS put those jobs on your resume if you're trying to break out of the entry level.

Costco's CFO reveals what you can learn when you arrive 30 minutes early to a job interview: "Get there a half hour early and see how employees greet their guests," Richard Galanti told the publication. "If you get a chance to visit the lunchroom, you also get a sense of the environment at a company." As for Costco, Galanti told the outlet, "We don't manage by intimidation." The warehouse club not only boasts the highest customer satisfaction scores each year, but Galanti also pointed out that the company keeps a relatively low turnover percentage in its workforce — especially when compared with industry averages. Most retailers can expect to replace more than half of their staff in the course of a year. "Our annual turnover rate is 13% to 14%," Galanti said. "Those are off-the-chart low numbers, and it's partly because we pay well but also because of the culture." ----- What are you doing to leave a lasting first impression with prospective employees? Are you making your business an attractive and inviting place to work? https://lnkd.in/gHA_kVR3

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to assess and sit in on interviews for various retail roles. I've always taken pride in my ability to determine who would be a good fit for the job. One lesson I've learned is to not discount an applicant's previous role or experience. Regardless of whether they come from a fast food chain or if this is their first real job, we should allow them to speak to their experiences and what they've handled. It's important to keep an open mind and give all applicants a fair chance. You may be pleasantly surprised by the amount of knowledge they have to offer. Let's focus on what they can bring to the table and not make assumptions based on their current or previous position. #jobinterview #retailjobs #hiringtips

Career Coach For Marketing Leaders 🥇 Get More Interviews, Interview w/ Confidence, & Land An Offer That Makes You Say "LFG!" 🤩
Today I'm celebrating my client who just landed a Managing Director position for a large e-commerce brand 🥳 $300K OTE 🤑🤝 Despite being ex-Amazon and having an impressive background... She was struggling to communicate her experience in a way that resonated with an executive audience for the types of roles she was targeting. Typically if you're not getting offers at a leadership level, it's because you're failing to do one of two things during your interviews: 1. Map out your high-level strategy and KPI's 📊 AND 2. Discuss the execution at a tactical level. Many Director+ level candidates fumble during this step. They keep their answer WAY too high level, and it makes it seems like they don't know what they're talking about. Do BOTH of these things during your interviews, and you'll be well on your way to an offer 💰🤝 --- That's two huge offers this week! To quote Drake: "Back to back like I'm on the cover of Lethal Weapon/ Back to back like I'm Jordan '96, '97" 🔫🏀

Everyone is saddened to see more upcoming job losses. This time with VM Ware in Ballincollig, Cork, Ireland. If you're affected by redundancy or job loss, avoid pigeon holing yourself. Look at your knowledge and skills with a focus on which are transferable. Search across different jobs boards at various roles instead of just what you've been doing. Open your mind, read job descriptions. Research, learn and understand that there are options. Example: Does your sector have regulation? If so, people from your sector are usually qualified to move across as your knowledge is valuable. Selling a product or service? Those selling skills are transferable. Marketing is likewise. Ask people who will answer honestly, what you're good at and weak at. List these things and think about where they are also used. Get your CV sorted (not just updated). And as you're reading this, do job searches on here and save them so you get notifications. Register with recruiters who handle roles you'd be interested in. Make your job, finding a new one. Get up, get ready and get stuck in every day. Relentlessly to a daily time schedule. Yes Daily! This time will pass and the sooner and more effort you make, the sooner it will pass. #redundancy #jobsearch #careerdevelopment #hiringnow

Marketing Graduate Eager to Contribute Innovative Ideas and Drive Success in a Forward-Thinking Company.
Three interviews in two weeks for "Entry level marketing. Let us teach you the ins and outs of marketing" or something to that effect. The real job is standing at Kiosks at Costco and Walmart. To top it off, all three companies are hiring for the same companies, ATT being the big one. Can anyone tell me: How do you get your foot in the door at a real marketing firm? Frustration followed by perservience. Let's do this. #jobhunting #careerchange

Taking a Trip Down Memory Lane to My First Job 😄 Everyone has to start somewhere! My first job was a temporary position at Dollor General, where I helped set up two new stores for grand openings. What struck me about that role was how quickly I was hired without much of an interview process. 🤔 While the lack of vetting had no effect on my work ethic, it did teach me the importance of being on time and putting in an honest day's work - lessons that have stayed with me ever since. Those early experiences shaped my perspective on work. Looking back, it is amazing how much I have changed since those early days. Work has been quite a journey! 🚶♂️ For example, not having robust interview experience early on made it more challenging to progress in my career. 😣 But it taught me to take advantage of opportunities to improve my interview skills. 💡 I still chuckle thinking about getting up before sunrise for that first job since I am NOT a morning person! 😴 It helped me realize I’m more productive working evenings. 🌙 What was your first job experience like? 🤔 Did you have any funny first-job stories or cringe-worthy moments? 😆 I'd love to hear your stories and perspectives on how early roles impacted you! 👂 Share your first-job reflections in the comments. 💬 #Laurens30Day #FirstJob #CareerJourney #StartSomewhere #WeAllStartSomewhere #CareerThrowback
