Last month, we did a workshop named “Me Against Myself” on the Health & Performance Congress, located in Estádio da Luz. It was a great oportunity to share our knowledge about (1) how are beliefs and expectatations of an athlete formed, (2) how can this affect his/her perspective, cognitions and emotions, and (3) how can the environment impact/act upon these things. 🙏Thank you for the opportunity to discuss legal challenges regarding #safeguarding in the daily work of sports physicians at the #SEMSCongress2023, it was an honour to share the stage with so many leading experts in the field! 👩⚕️The support of medical staff is without a doubt highly important when it comes to making elite sports safer and success more sustainable. The work in interdisciplinary teams provides lots of benefits (e.g. more holistic and less problem-oriented approach), at the same time new legal and ethical questions arise from it. ❓What exactly is the role of a team doctor? How can we make sure that the right information ends up in the right place? When and how should an intervention happen? 🔛 There is more work to do and I am looking forward to finding more answers. This demands further dialogue, exchange, coordination and us continuing asking critical questions. #safeguarding #safesports #ethicsinsports #swissgymnastics Sport & Exercise Medicine Switzerland Schweizerischer Turnverband - Fédération suisse de Gymnastique

The importance of high-intensity efforts in LALIGA is already unquestionable scientific evidence. Up to seven scientific articles show in one way or another the current importance of high-intensity efforts: 1. Regarding the evolution of LALIGA EA SPORTS, the results showed an increase in the high-intensity distances and number of sprints performed (https://lnkd.in/daMmzSgE). 2. The current data suggest that the combination of a training week with a high load and a short period of high-intensity running during the match might increase the risk of muscle injury in professional footballers (https://lnkd.in/dpFkUXDa). 3. The number of efforts made at high-intensity running (HIR) increased across the eight seasons (https://lnkd.in/dsZA9bvs). 4. This study shows the importance of high loads during reconditioning programs, as well as implementing strategies that allow reaching levels of maximum speed values after the return to play (https://lnkd.in/dx3eRPmZ). 5. Professional soccer players need to be prepared during warm-ups for maximal intensity sprints in the first period of the match as well as maximal intensity sprints under high fatigue conditions given the frequency of sprints in the last period of the match (https://lnkd.in/dE2G64Wm). 6. Metrics from the match before the hamstring muscle strain demonstrated the best accuracy to predict injury occurrence: high-speed running distance ≤328 m: sensitivity, 64%; specificity, 84% (https://lnkd.in/dWFcZsHY). 7. Hamstring muscle injuries during the competition were preceded by 5 min of higher running demands at > 21 km/h, compared with control matches. This suggests that a short period of unusual running increases the risk of hamstring muscle injury in professional football players (https://lnkd.in/dCfs_T99).

I am thrilled to see our research spotlighted at the Isokinetics Conference in Madrid 🇪🇸! A heartfelt thank you to Mario Bizzini for for the recognition. Although I couldn't attend in person, it’s gratifying to see our work making a tangible impact in sports medicine. Our study on the FIFA 11+ Shoulder Injury Prevention Program demonstrated more than a 50% reduction in upper extremity injuries among soccer goalkeepers. With the participation of 726 goalkeepers over one season, we showed that strategic, well-structured warm-ups significantly enhance athlete safety and performance. These findings highlight the importance of innovative and collaborative approaches in advancing sports medicine. It’s about working smart and leveraging evidence-based practices for optimal outcomes. I am profoundly grateful to my co-authors, participants, and everyone who contributed to this project. Your dedication has been the cornerstone of our success. Special thanks to the Isokinetics Conference organizers for providing a platform to share and discuss groundbreaking research. Together, we can achieve remarkable advancements. #Isokinetics2024 #SportsMedicine #ResearchImpact #FIFA11Plus #InjuryPrevention

⚽ "If we make even one better transfer decision or prevent one player from getting injured, that is already a tangible benefit for the club." These are the words of Michał Żukowski, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Stomil Olsztyn S.A. and Chairman of the Innovation Committee of the Polish Football Association, Why is it worth investing in our preventive #sciencebased #tech and implementing it in clubs? Because #injuries to #football players are a significant problem, both in economic and social terms. 💡 According to a study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, injuries to football players cost about $ 1.38 billion a year in the United States alone. In Europe, the cost of injuries increased by 29% in the 2021/22 season, reaching a record amount of over 584 million euros. Paris Saint-Germain lost the most (40.73 million euros), followed by Real Madrid C.F. (40.41 million euros) and FC Barcelona (33.23 million euros). In the 2022/23 season, the cost of injuries in the PremierLeague was already 103 million euros - more than in any other league. The average cost of injury per league is 53.7 million euros. 📌Smarter Diagnostics can help reduce these costs by better monitoring of players’ #health , as well as supporting better transfer decisions, based on numerical #data . Our tool uses advanced #AI algorithms to assess the condition of lower leg tissues and to determine prophylaxis recommendations for the club. Our goal is to create an intelligent assistant for #footballclubs that will help them gain an edge over their rivals and increase their chances of success. Join us and discover how SmarterDiagnostics can #changeyourgame.
