Wanted to share a compilation of fascinating research and statistics about the realities of women’s labor force participation pre-and-post-pandemic. The article dives into the impacts of rising childcare expenses coupled with the lack of access to childcare and how it is impacting women, men and their families in different socio-economic stratas. It also discusses how WFH and flexible work arrangements, paid leave and company policies can help alleviate certain stressors. It is very easy to scroll over the inundations of articles on the LinkedIn feeds but I do think this is worth the read ☕ 📰 👓.

Our new CEO Annabel spoke to The Big Issue this week about the challenges facing both parents and early years sector providers – even in light of the extension of government funding this year for two-year-olds (from April) and under-twos (from September). Annabel MacGregor, the chief executive at Raised In nurseries in Bristol, told The Big Issue: “There will be valid frustration from families who are desperate for this early education for their children but aren’t able to find the space. It’s been phrased as ‘you’re entitled to free childcare’, but the nuances of what that actually means in practice probably hasn’t been thought through.” Read more in the article https://lnkd.in/eKeSPHYC #earlyyears #nursery #nurseries #childcare #bristolnursery #governmentfunding #childcarechoices #socialenterprise #peopleoverprofit #reallivingwage #wherefuturesflourish #womeninbusiness #socialentrepreneurs #supportlocal #circulareconomy #triplebottomline #socent #socialenterpriseuk #raisedin #sociallyconscious #raisedinbristol #businessesthatgiveback #buysocial #ethicalbusiness #sociallyminded #communityfocused #communityinterestcompany #communityinterest #changemakers #socialimpact

A KSL article on UWLP research reveals the harsh reality many families face in finding affordable care for their kids. Did you know that the average Utah family with two kids under 4 spends nearly $18k per year on childcare? This report uncovers the impending childcare "funding cliff" as federal support linked to COVID is expected to run out by June 2024. Dr. Susan Madsen, the driving force behind the research, emphasizes the urgent need for creative solutions from businesses and hopes the state legislature steps up to recognize the economic benefits of funding childcare. Childcare has a significant impact on employee retention, especially among female workers. More than a third of women reported voluntarily leaving the workforce due to childcare expenses or availability in 2022. What can an employer do to assist working parents and address retention concerns? Some ideas include partnering with a childcare network, offering on-site childcare, or providing child-care stipends to offset some costs. Accredited Financial Coach. Helping you to manage your money better and achieve your financial goals.
How long can I afford to have on maternity leave? Are we able to send our children to private school? How much is childcare? Can I afford to have children? These really shouldn't be questions prospective parents in a G7 country need to consider. Some European workers would rather return to their home country to raise children, where costs are lower and family support (Grannycare) is nearby. Fortunately I do lay a lot of concerns at rest during financial planning sessions, but it is not cheap. It's good to be prepared. Article below from Helena Morrissey on the state of present UK childcare. What are the solutions? #childcare #financialplanning #financialcoaching #budgeting #workingwomen
🖋"Our system is an outlier in the developed world and it’s holding working families back" | Writes Helena Morrissey "#Childcare costs are a painful subject for #British #parents. My husband Richard and I struggled to find affordable childcare when we had our firstborn son 32 years ago "We both had decent full-time jobs and assumed we could afford basic childcare, but a #nursery place accounted for 70pc of my post-tax pay. We couldn’t afford to live on one #salary, and no family members lived close enough to help "A nursery near my office in the #City was the least unaffordable option, and the most compatible with our working hours. I went back to work, feeling conflicted as so many new #mothers do, but on a mission: to get promoted so I could contribute more to the #family finances "All these years later, many couples are in the exact same bind. According to #Pregnant Then Screwed, one in four parents say their childcare costs more than 75pc of after-tax pay, with one in 10 either just breaking even, or paying to work. One in three parents take on #debt to cover the costs" Read the full article⤵ https://lnkd.in/eJ9C--GW #government #parenting #children
