“But where’s my audience?” Connecting with your target audience can be a challenge, especially if they aren't active on social media or attending industry events. As a veteran focused organization, we've found creative ways to engage those who have served outside of traditional channels. Rather than waiting for veterans to come to us, we go to them. We partner with VFW halls, attend community events on military bases, and work with advocates to reach veterans where they already are. This takes persistence and thinking outside the box, but it's worth it. Meeting your audience where they are builds trust and shows you care about more than “selling” healthcare. You make it clear you want to understand their needs first. We've found veterans are more receptive when we come into their space vs asking them to come to ours. There is no one size fits all approach to connecting with your audience. Be willing to experiment, listen, and work within existing communities. The reward of increased engagement and impact is immense. Where could you meet your audience where they already are?

Just returned from the Connections 2024 wargaming conference at Carlisle, PA. The theme of the conference was "Educational Wargaming: Play to Learn, Play to Win." where I presented for US Fight Club on the topic of "Helping to Bridge the Mid-Level Training Gap". I believe wargaming is one area where the US, NATO and our Pacific allies may be more able to effectively leverage it to gain a cognitive advantage over the militaries of more authoritarian systems. This is because good wargaming helps to facilitate innovative thinking, which when done within an authoritarian system creates an internal conflict within those systems. If this hypothesis is correct, then it implies that western defense establishments should leverage this advantage by encouraging more professional wargaming by its members. For those interested, the Conference presentations will be posted at https://lnkd.in/gWmUbTCz. Shon Barnwell Events is proud to announce that it has earned the exclusive designation as a Certified Veteran’s Business EnterpriseTM (VBE) from the NaVOBA - National Veteran- Owned Business Association. To be eligible for the designation as NaVOBA Certified VBETM, the applicant firm must be at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by one or more U.S. military veterans. At its core certification is a protection for both veteran-owned businesses as well as the corporations and organizations that do business with them. “People can easily say ‘I’m a veteran-owned business’ when they really aren’t,” NaVOBA President Matthew Pavelek said. “Corporations will not risk the accuracy of their Supplier Diversity spending goals by recording spend on contracts with firms that say they are owned by veterans if they aren’t absolutely certain of the ownership, operation and control of that firm. Working with a third-party nonprofit organization like NaVOBA and its VBE certification program provides that certainty.” About The National Veteran-Owned Business Association (NaVOBA) NaVOBA is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization led by Corporate Supplier Diversity professionals. It is the mission of NaVOBA to create corporate contracting opportunities for America’s Veteran’s and Service-Disabled Veteran’s Business Enterprises.
