As an African-American choir director, the call and response tradition has been the heartbeat of my musical and spiritual upbringing. 🙏🏾 This practice isn’t just a theory of music - it’s a profound theory of relationship that reinforces the immense value of human connection. 👥 To truly engage in this vital call and response process, we must be willing to be vulnerable, putting our authentic selves out there for the group. 💗 But it’s a two-way street - the real power comes when we actively listen and creatively incorporate the feedback, allowing it to shape us in the moment. 👂🏾 This openness doesn’t just make us better musicians or speakers, it draws us into deeper, more meaningful bonds with our community. 🕊️ Embracing the vulnerability and active listening of call and response is how we build the sustaining, empowering connections that have uplifted the Black church for generations. 🙌🏾 Who’s ready to raise their voice and respond? mic drop🎤 #TedTalk #tedxtalks #CommunityBuilding #vulnerabilityisstrength #ActiveListening #whatcommunitysoundslike #blackchurch #ourstoryisone

Develop those skills
On the 5th of August, the Michaelhouse Jazz Band showcased their talent at the "All Stars Shine: A Showcase of KZN Schools Talent" concert held at The Playhouse Theatre. Among several skilled school and community ensembles, I am proud to say the Michaelhouse boys delivered an impressive performance, receiving enthusiastic applause. Gqamile Mbuyazi and Luneziwe Mshengu's vocal prowess stirred the crowd, evoking cheers and applause midway through their songs. The concert ended in a finale featuring all the participating ensembles performing a mass item. Michaelhouse extends its gratitude to Natalie Rungan and The Playhouse Theatre for their gracious hosting and the opportunity to perform in such an iconic South African venue.

The Cautionary Stewardship Tale of Lois Kirschenbaum An unassuming donor, who is passionate about opera leaves a massive $4M legacy. I’m not surprised. The fascinating NYT article encompasses so many planned giving truisms: a. Being “frugal” doesn’t mean you don’t have assets. Just because Lois bought the cheapest seats, brought her own sandwiches to the Met, and lived in a rent stabilized apartment doesn’t mean she can’t make a very large gift! In many cases, the lack of heirs is a good sign of a potentially large estate. b. Stewardship is key; Did anyone at the Met Opera meet with her? Talk with her? It’s not enough just to get Planned Giving donors, you need to listen to their stories, their values and their concerns. Emails and online websites can only take you so far; you need personal interactions, particularly with your legacy donors. c. Your will is the last statement you will ever make, and Lois certainly made a statement with hers; both to the organizations she supported, and at least one which she didn’t. #legacyplanning https://lnkd.in/e3gUP8Yv
