“For most people, purpose at work is built not found. Working with a sense of purpose day-in and day-out is an act of will that takes thoughtfulness and practice. How do you consciously endow your work with purpose? First, connect work to service. Ask yourself, who do I serve? Connecting your day-to-day jobs — consciously and concretely — to those we’re ultimately serving makes completing that work more purposeful. Next, craft your work – and make work a craft. Shape your tasks to make them more meaningful, and dedicate yourself to learning perfecting key skills in the role. Then, invest in positive relationships by developing collegial relationships at work. Finally, remember why you work. Identify the person or group of people in your personal life that your work is in service for, and keep them in mind when you work through even the most tedious of tasks. Purpose isn’t magic — it’s something we must consciously pursue and create. With the right approach, almost any job can be meaningful.”

This is such a critical re-humanization of business. Ignoring the "customer" of our work is the fastest way not only to irrelevance but lackluster performance. This is one of the reasons why funding everything through the government is a mistake. You cannot remain sensitive to the consumer if you are no longer accountable to them daily, and business does that best. Society does not need to rely on a massive government infrastructure, but on the people who represent the companies that serve us. Companies have worked hard over the last 30 years to learn and apply this, so let's not lose what we know now! #strategicthinking

To me, taking pride in your work and investing time, mental and physical energy into polishing and perfecting your craft in service to others is what makes work fulfilling. I enjoy seeing the fruits of my labor in the form of my clients succeeding in their work as a result of mine. We all have bills to pay, and so work is not necessarily optional. But while you are working, it can be beneficial to try to extract skill development and personal growth out of your everyday routines at work. When you take the stance of doing your work with pride and care, it is good for the soul and good for those that will benefit from your skills. #selfimprovement #wisdom

We are taught that growth and fullfillment in work you do depends on your salary and the promotions you could have. The growth and “meaning in the work you do” ladder doesn’t have to go vertically (promotions only) but horizontally! Great article on 4 simple mindsets to add to the work you do. - Connect work to service - Craft your work - and make work your craft - Invest in positive relationships - Remember why you work Can you check the box on all 4? #mindset #alwayslearning

For many first responders, the work is not just a job; it’s a calling, and the uniform is a powerful symbol of identity, leaving you feeling naked without it when transitioning to a new career. It’s important to take small and practical steps to stay connected with the parts of you that found expression in the job and explore how to continue the story of you through this time of transition. I'm now about a month into my role at U.S. National Archives and Records Administration. I've been helping to facilitate a small group of folks new-to-supervisory roles. Over this last week, it became apparent to me that someone was struggling a little with the onboarding experience to their role. I own career success... that includes making sure people feel like they belong in the org. If they're here, people should feel like they belong. From my own neuro-spicy experiences with sensory issues, I *know* people make their way to where they feel like they belong, and it doesn't matter what you might put out there... if they're not feeling it, they're gonna seek belonging somewhere else. If you want people to feel belonging, sometimes we need to switch up our approach to help deliver the needed impact. I think I helped nudge someone back from looking for another job yesterday. It was clear to me that this person needed someone to tell them they were on the right track, that the awkwardness of their situation is valid; that their inherent leadership skills are solid and they should feel some confidence leaning into those skills. As Alex Hillman once told me, she doesn't "need permission to be awesome" but I explicitly gave it to her anyway. It feels *good*. Everyday, make the extra effort to connect with someone who isn't picking up what you're putting down. They may not be able to sense what you're putting out there; different approaches to connecting can yield different outcomes. What's important is making the effort directly ;)

⚠️ Gen Z putting their dream jobs on hold 😔 Research from The Prince's Trust and LADbible Group shows that the younger generation do not feel able to chase their dream jobs, citing a lack of opportunity (36 percent) as the number one obstacle. Other factors holding young people back from their dream jobs include: ➡️ money ➡️ lack of self-confidence ➡️ lack of experience ➡️ increased cost of living We know that young women are more likely to be in lower paid jobs and sectors of the economy and are more likely to get stuck there. They still face discrimination in the workplace, and this is holding them back from progressing, reaching their potential, and earning what they should ❗ Join us in creating an equal world of work in order to raise young women’s incomes, satisfaction with their jobs and future prospects 🙌https://lnkd.in/e7cNFf-w
We polled thousands of young people in our latest report, led by LADbible Group, which revealed 57% of 18 to 24-year-olds have lowered their aspirations due to the cost of living crisis. So much so, 60% of young people are chasing 'any' job, opposed to their 'dream' job. We're committed to opening doors for young people to help them create the futures they deserve.
