To the magnificent black women leaders who I’ve had the privilege of coaching and the ones who I’ve yet to meet: 👀 I see you navigating organizational spaces where you are diminished, dismissed and disenfranchised. 👀 I see you shrinking as you question yourself when in fact, it's the environment you are in that is questionable. 👀 I see the toll it's taking on you - the erosion of your confidence, your voice, your health, your peace. And like Shug Avery (iykyk) I am singing this song to you. 🎤🎤🎤 Sister, you’ve been on my mind. Sister, we’re two of a kind. So sister, I’m keeping my eyes on you. Oh sister, have I got news for you I’m somethin' - I hope you think that you’re somethin' too. So let me tell you somethin' sister Remember your name. 🎤🎤🎤 That’s the part of the work of coaching: remembering. It is incredible watching my coachees put in the work until that beautiful moment where I get to witness: A women reawakening to her worth. A leader remembering exactly who she is. Brilliant 🌟 Capable 🌟Resourceful 🌟Creative 🌟 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾Powerful💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 To my future coachees and to the other black women leaders who have yet to secure the support you need, hear this: 💫You deserve a workplace that celebrates you and your talents. 💫You deserve respect and a safe space to thrive. If you are currently in the midst of a toxic situation, know this: ✨You don’t have to weather this by yourself. ✨You have options. ✨Your mental and emotional well-being matter. Don’t suffer silently, instead do this: ✔️Get a therapist. ✔️Engage a coach. ✔️Call on your sister-circle. Being true to oneself is crucial. For many introverted black female leaders, societal 'norms' can impose challenging expectations. We aren't necessarily 'shy' or 'quiet'. Instead, we might need space to recuperate after social events that deplete our energy. Taking a brief moment to recharge doesn't mean we're anti-social or reluctant leaders. On the contrary, we lead powerfully through our actions and unique skillset. We are not the loudest voice and so we listen keenly and observe. We motivate and drive change. We get results. Being a black female leader already presents its challenges, and our introverted nature can intensify those. If you have an introverted black female leader in your team, respect their need for occasional solitude to re-energise. #introvertedblackfemaleleader

Being surrounded by women, especially Black women, can be a gift that keeps giving. But… Often times, there is a lack of trust. Often times, there has been betrayal. Often times, there are unresolved issues. Often times, there are feelings of burnout. Maybe these can be resolved through meaningful dialogue, clarity and healing. There’s usually three sides to every story. In the past few days, I’ve meet with two Black women in Michigan - powerhouse executives. Who is holding space for you? Yesterday, I hosted the kick-off call for the I Belong Support Network. Thirteen brilliant Black women joined, excited and eager for the support they need as they transition to their next levels. In less than an hour, we uncovered a common thread among them: They love helping and supporting others. I bet that's you, too. I bet it brings you joy to guide someone through a situation. It's what Black women do! We also uncovered something else: It's time for them to refill their own cups. 👉🏾As "onlys," wives, business owners, ministers, educators, coaches, and friends, your cup can run empty. You give so much... and to keep giving, 🚨You need someone to hold space for YOU. Maybe it's a mentor. Perhaps it's a coach. It could be a therapist or a group of friends. In my experience working with Black women leaders, two things tend to be barriers to them finding healthy, long-lasting romance: a desire with no plan of action and no concrete understanding of why you want what you want. Unfortunately, this combination is a recipe for stagnation and frustration which, in the long run, could lead to bitterness. Most of us know how to create plans for everything in else our lives except in our romantic lives. Your relationship desires also need relationship goals and milestones. For example, you must ask yourself honest questions such as “what do I actually want versus what do I think I should want?” Do you want marriage, a committed partnership or simply looking to have fun and casually date? It’s up to you to define what your ideal but realistic relationship looks like for you. You will have the opportunity to do just that in community with other Black women leaders on February 14th at the Executive Leadership Experience. From 10am-3:30p.m, we will provide you with the space to identify what exactly you are looking for and assist in creating YOUR relationship goals and milestones. Our journey isn't about the hurdles we've overcome; it's about the paths we're paving for those who follow. Let's talk about change, not as a distant dream, but as a reality we're crafting every day. Introducing "A Love Letter for Black Leaders," a special series for Black History Month where we celebrate the incredible journey and resilience  of Black leaders. This is the first installment of three entitled  "It’s Not You - Navigating Leadership as a Black Woman." The conversations over the next few weeks are near and dear to my heart.  As a Black woman who spent 20+ years in Corporate America,  often feeling unseen and unheard, I wanted to give voice to our unique experiences and provide resources, tools, and a community to let you know you’re not alone.
