As recruiters, navigating the landscape of remote roles can be challenging. While the allure of tapping into a wider talent pool is evident, the sheer volume of applicants can make finding the right fit seem like searching for a needle in a haystack. Consider this scenario: we recently posted a Remote Sr. Demand Planning Manager position requiring experience in Personal Care Manufacturing. Within just 5 days, we received an impressive 898 applications. However, only 7 applicants—less than 1%—met the criteria necessary for the role. Here are the stats: · Of 898 applicants, 102 had Demand Planning experience. · Of the102, 51 answered that they had Personal Care Manufacturing experience. · Of those 51, only 22 actually had Personal Care Manufacturing experience. · Of those 22, 7 were relevant to the role due to their level / years of experience, degree, etc. This reality highlights a common frustration for both candidates and hiring teams. Despite our best efforts, many qualified individuals may inadvertently be overlooked amidst the deluge of applications and direct inquiries. So, a word of advice: before hitting "submit" on your application for every remote opportunity, take a moment to carefully review the job description. Ensure that your qualifications align with the role's requirements to increase your chances of catching the recruiter's eye. By being selective in your applications, you can enhance your visibility and improve your chances of standing out in a crowded field. Don't convince a candidate to take a job. Definitely don't convince them to take a particular "in office" structure. 👇🏻 A hiring manager and recruiter's role is to educate. Help candidates see the growth path, the opportunity, the challenges, and help them reflect on what is most important to them, etc. For example; If you have to convince someone to work remotely, don't. If the person isn't excited about full-time remote, but still takes the job, they will move on for something hybrid or in person when that right role comes up. Remote wasn't what they truly wanted.
