The Lord Chancellor has been tagged! The Minister agreed to be ankle tagged for 24 hours. Watch the video. I take this as a milestone that the head is taking embodied experience seriously. He is engaging with the physical nature of going through the criminal justice system.   Great design requires buy-in from leadership, and an awareness of the highs and lows of user experience. Empathy comes from absorbing and taking on actionable insight from deep research with embodied experience moments, like being tagged. You CANNOT get this from Slides on a Teams Call, from governance board meetings and dashboards. We need to get creative as design researchers and encourage 'embodied experiences' to help our leaders understand the world they are shaping. *tagging isn't a solution that's right in all circumstances of the criminal justice system. During #PPPSWeek we are reminded of the importance of communication. Our Probation Officers & Case Managers possess excellent communication skills, especially with regard to listening. Team members must listen to & understand court orders, & Department of Correction referrals about monitoring the individual’s compliance. Our staff must also listen to the individual & have the ability to help them understand what is expected of them in terms of their probation requirements. Together, we have made the probation system more fair for all! This isn't just a bill; it's a second chance for hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians. It’s a real opportunity for individuals on probation to rebuild, thrive, and make a meaningful impact in their communities. Senate Bill 838 will ➡️ ✅ Limit when someone can be sent to prison for a technical violation and how long they can be incarcerated for. ✅ Expand pathways to early termination when probation is no longer needed. ✅ Individualize conditions of probation aligned to unique risks & needs. ✅ Account for people’s financial situations and ability to pay fines, fees, and restitution.
