Her driving force is an unwavering belief that community service fosters hope and demonstrates what an improved quality of life looks like. As Jacqueline shares, "Giving back is crucial because it fosters hope and sets a higher standard of living, demonstrating what increased quality of life can look like. By investing my time and resources into the community, I help illuminate the path to a better future for all." Her focus areas include enhancing health literacy, promoting STEM/STEAM education, and creating more inclusive spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community and minorities. "The financial support provided by Nomi Health is a significant enabler in my mission. It's not just about the monetary aspect but the clear message it sends—that my employer values and trusts my vision enough to invest in it.," says Jacqueline. This year's Lake Nona Impact Forum #LNIF24 is shining a spotlight on women's health. But the question looms: Will the perspectives, innovations, empowerment, and research related to #widows find a place at the table? My experience from last year's forum revealed a glaring omission—despite the backdrop of a pandemic that significantly increased the number of #widows, their health challenges and adversities weren't addressed even once. This oversight sparked a fire in me, leading me to pen “Reimagining a Future for Widows’ Health: The Next 20 Years”. It's a call to action, urging us to weave the threads of #widowhood into the broader tapestry of women's health discussions and initiatives. From #LNIF24 posts, “It's time to rewrite the narrative and place women's health at the forefront where it rightfully belongs, ensuring that every woman feels heard, supported, and empowered on.” When we say EVERY woman, let's not forget that includes WIDOWS too. #widowadvocate #invisiblewomen #widowhood #womenshealth #inclusion

Championing Care Experience as a Protected Characteristic: Why It Matters and How You Can Help. Tomorrow, I'm thrilled and a little nervous to speak at the Newport Council meeting on a landmark motion: recognizing care experience as a protected characteristic in the first city in Wales. This journey began by facing my own past in care, a process facilitated by transformative therapy. Witnessing the real-life struggles and triumphs of others – like Rachel W,Luke Rodgers BEM, Fatima Whitbread, Chris Wild and Terry Galloway – solidified my resolve to try and help make a difference. And everyday I am learning about the huge opportunities we have to transform the future of so many. The statistics are stark: Every 15minutes a child leaves care, they are twice as likely to be unemployed, ten times more likely to experience homelessness, face a 70% increased chance they will die prematurely, and if they do make their way into the world of work experience one of the biggest pay gaps in the UK. It's not just about stats or individual stories; recognizing care experience empowers countless individuals and strengthens our communities. If you share this vision, consider joining! ➡️ Watch the council meeting live here tomorrow at 5pm (Motion to be discussed around 5:30 I think): https://lnkd.in/eQaK4c-e ➡️ Join a Zoom session on 31st of January at 7:30pm: Just pop me your email address and I will send you the Zoom Link or rigister here https://lnkd.in/e-ChhWhC so we can discuss in further detail why care experience should be recognised as a protected charateristic and how you can advocate for this change in your own communities. Lets learn from each other, and amplify this campaign together. Lets support Terry's efforts and drive this change froward. We got this Wales. We may have been a late arriver at this party but I know we will ignite this change with our passion. Together, we can create a more supportive and inclusive society for those with care experience. #CareExperience #Equality #SocialJustice #Wales #NewportCouncil #Community #TogetherWeRise

🌟 Founder & CEO at Spark Innovation Group | Care Technology Evangelist | Illuminating the Way in #Agetech 🌟
Reflections from the Care Showcase at Brighton Racecourse 🌟 Yesterday, Spark Care had the privilege of exhibiting at the Care Showcase at Brighton Racecourse, an event that brought together visionaries and practitioners in the field of adult social care. One of the highlights for me was listening to Kevin Humphrys, CEO at Oakland Care Group, whose insights into the future of adult social care were not only enlightening but also deeply inspiring. Kevin began his talk with a quote that resonated with everyone in the room: "Adult social care is both an art and a science, bound by the complexity of human emotions." This perfectly encapsulates the dual challenges we face in this field—balancing the emotional and practical needs of those we care for. 🎭🔬 Kevin emphasised the urgent need for fair funding reform in adult social care. It’s clear that without adequate resources, the quality of care and the well-being of both carers and those they care for will significantly suffer. He also highlighted the importance of cultural shifts within our organisations. As we evolve, embracing changes in our approach can lead to meaningful progress and enhance the care we provide. 💡🔄 Moreover, Kevin discussed how crucial the widespread adoption of technology is in transforming adult social care. From improving operational efficiencies to providing better care through advanced monitoring systems, technology stands as a pillar that can support this sector's future. 🖥️💪 It was an enlightening experience to see so many dedicated professionals in one place, all committed to advancing the field of adult social care. Let’s continue these important conversations and work together towards a future where every individual receives the care and respect they deserve. #CareShowcase #AdultSocialCare #InnovationInCare #HealthcareLeadership

You measure what you care about. As much as running a social impact business is about taking action for the greater good, it's also about using data to deliver what people actually need. Late last year, we asked our newsletter readers, clients and community members, "How often do you participate in the civic process? (i.e. voting, participating on a board or calling your elected officials) 💡 - About 50% responded Rarely/Once per year - About 30% responded Occasionally/Few times a year, and - About 20% responded Regularly/Multiple times a year We then asked what barriers exist to prevent more participation. Some of the responses included: - Time. Only so much time in the day. - Time at work - Time. I am working on my Ph.D. - Time and other commitments mostly. Knowing my input or presence matters. - Childcare, affordable parking, accessible transportation - Initiatives being during work hours or not having childcare to fully participate 💡 So I ask myself, my Civility Localized team members, my clients and now you: How can we reduce these participation barriers in the short and long term so that more people can gain access to their government leadership, important community growth decisions and gain access to social capital? Add your thoughts in the comments on how we can expand opportunities, reduce the time barrier and the childcare barriers for #communityengagement. #survey #publicsector #localgovernment #leadershipdevelopment

Passionate about the mental health & wellbeing of children & young people in the UK & Iraq | GPwSI in Child & adolescent mental health | Barnardo's GP| Mental health trainer | WHO Fides health influencer | Public speaker
Today was an incredibly insightful and inspiring day at the #KFTimeForAction conference, hosted by @thekingsfund and Barnardo's. Throughout the day, I felt equally challenged and optimistic as we delved into the critical topic of addressing health #inequalities for children and young people. The day kicked off with powerful opening speeches from Rukshana Kapasi, Professor Bola Owolabi and the esteemed Sir Michael Marmot, shedding light on the pressing issues surrounding health disparities. From discussions on #Asthma, #Diabetes, #epilepsy, #oralhealth and #mentalhealth, it became evident that a clear social gradient exists in the quality of care received, with the most deprived often receiving the worst care. It is so clear that it is time for action and for change, and I am proud to stand alongside Barnardo's in advocating for this change. Sir Michael Marmot was completely fearless, emphasizing the stark reality of #childmortality in the U.K. - a statistic worsened for the most deprived, and that has been worsening even still in the last few years with #austerity, with “poor communities getting bigger budget cuts than non-poor communities”. He mentioned that we have been moving away from public values and responsibility and towards “private affluence and public squalor”. A harrowing statistic was that if we aim for equality in life expectancy, we could prevent a staggering one million deaths. Rukshana Kapasi put children and young people at the centre of the discussion, bringing the statistics to life with stories of some of the 358,000 children and families supported by Barnardo's. It was a poignant reminder not to lose sight of the individuals behind the statistics. She powerfully challenged us to never stop listening to the voices and needs of children and young people, asking, “Would we make the same decision if babies, children, and young people were in the room?”. Through the innovative examples shared by Barnardo’s of where they have provided services alongside health and social care, it became clear that “the VCSE sector can be the hidden superpower for integrated health systems”. #HealthEquity #ChildHealth #YouthHealth #Inclusion #Equality #ChangeStartsNow #KFTimeForAction
