Creating more insights on the actual status of assets and the grid is essential to manage the modern bi-directional grid. This is a great example of this transition/transformation!!
Real-time monitoring of distribution cables sounds like the holy grail for utilities and other critical infrastructures that depend on grid reliability. But can this technology truly prevent cable failures? At DISTRIBUTECH International 2024, we brought together industry experts from Baltimore Gas and Electric's (BGE) and DNV’s Smart Cable Guard team to discuss the lessons learned from BGE’s real-time cable monitoring technology deployment. Relive the session with Hamid Abdurrahim, Manager of Distribution Automation & Technology at Baltimore Gas & Electric and Smart Cable Guard Engineer Jeff Rea, as they delve into the transformative potential of real-time cable monitoring. This E&E News story reviews the new U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) report, Pathways to Commercial Liftoff, Innovative Grid Deployment, examining how advanced grid technologies can boost overall electric grid capacity without building additional transmission lines. The story features input from Daniel Brooks, vice president of integrated grid and energy systems at EPRI, who explains that for these technologies to be effective, grid operators must have confidence that they operate as expected. Grid Enhancing Technologies (GETs) on both the transmission and distribution systems are a major research focus for EPRI, with white papers planned for release later this year. Much of this research is completed at EPRI’s state-of-the-art research labs. Find out more about their capabilities here. https://lnkd.in/ed5bPykn Story: https://lnkd.in/eUUffczr

As power demands increase, the challenge for Arizona G&T is to continue to balance available power generation resources based on reliability and cost, while also being responsible for the most appropriate use of available resources. How do we do it? We continuously analyze new technologies to generate more cost-effective and reliable electricity. See what we’ve been exploring at https://lnkd.in/gfpdvmTJ.

In graduate school I studied nanomagnetism, and the unit system I used the most was CGS (centimeter-gram-second) because it simplifies a lot of the equations having to do with magnetic fields. I am still tempted to use CGS sometimes, because even though 0.3 terawatts sounds big, 3 exa-ergs/sec sounds even bigger. And how often do you have an opportunity to use the exa prefix?
It's not too late to register for Infocast's Transmission and Interconnection Summit from 6/25-6/27 in DC! On 6/26, Our CEO and Co-founder, David Bromberg, will participate in the panel, "𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘐𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘓𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘳 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘺." This is a subject near and dear to our hearts, as we've worked with transmission providers such as Southwest Power Pool and Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) to introduce more automation into their study processes. By mid-summer, roughly 300 GW of projects - about 10% of the nation's queue backlog - will have been modeled in our SUGAR™ software by transmission providers in their efforts to accelerate interconnection studies. We remain motivated by our impact on the energy transition and we're looking forward to dialoguing with other industry experts about the full spectrum of innovative solutions to expedite interconnection and transmission planning. Hope to see you there! https://lnkd.in/d8TfhtFx

🏘 One of the trickiest topics in trying to assess whether a region's electric grid is adequate and reliable is: the neighbo(u)rs. From trade, to reserve sharing to contagious events; one region's fortune influences its neighbours' in interconnected systems - a concept seen multiple times recently. 💡 Do not miss EPRI's Anna Lafoyiannis in discussion with Alban Joyeau (ENTSO-E) and Moayad Al Kadhem (GCC Interconnection Authority ( GCCIA )) to talk through how continental resource adequacy assessments in Europe and the Middle East help their regions spot wide-area events in advance, and what we can all learn from building those analyses.
Join us for our 6th webcast from the Resource Adequacy Forum on June 12th (9:30 AM PT, 12:30 PM ET, or 18:30 CET). As electricity systems become more and more interconnected, the greater the need to consider wide-area assessments. In this webcast, titled "Wide Area Assessments: 3 Continents, 3 Approaches" we will discuss with experts from GCC Interconnection Authority ( GCCIA ) and ENTSO-E their successes and learnings from implementing wide-area resource adequacy assessments. The webcast is moderated by Anna Lafoyiannis, former chair of North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)’s Reliability Assessment Subcommittee. Registration for the webcast is free but required. Secure your spot today at https://lnkd.in/eejHTVp7 📩 Stay up to date on EPRI’s resource adequacy related insights by subscribing to our mailing list at: https://lnkd.in/guxdZ5Xz #ResourceAdequacy
