Saved by Zero The dry desert climes of Midland, Texas, can easily push sizzling-hot summers into October. But during a trip last week to the Permian, Justin Mecklenburg was greeted with temps in the 70s—a hallelujah respite for workers who call the oilfield their office. He recalls the surprise cool-down, even for a day or so, was all anyone could talk about with conversations quickly turning to the cold West Texas winter ahead, and invariably, haunts of Winter Storm Uri. Reese Energy Consulting today is catching up with Mecklenburg, CEO of Kingfisher, Okla-based NeoInsulation , who takes us back to that February in 2021 when a catastrophic freeze crippled nearly the entire state. The event triggered a reckoning for producers and midstreamers operating in the nation’s largest oilfield who not only suffered heavy revenue losses due to shutdowns but also spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment repairs. Mecklenburg says that while basin operators in Northern states expect brutal winters, those in Texas and Okla., don’t—but all it takes is one week-long storm to reconsider taking the risk. Formed in 2013, NeoInsulation now counts more than 7,000 no-fail installations across the country, including Alaska—200 of which were tested by Uri. The company distinguishes itself by manufacturing and installing patent-protected, customized, removable, and reusable insulation solutions. When used along with heat trace, NeoInsulation protects valves, pipes, vessels, fittings, tank batteries, wellheads, separators, and heater/treaters from damaging cold and ice with zero fails. NeoInsulation maintains field offices in Okla., Texas, Wyo., N.D., and Penn. What do you think? Over 70% of newly drilled wells across the Lower 48 are now "child" wells, situated near preexisting "parent" wells. This presents a significant challenge for maintaining well performance, as parent production continues to deplete the reservoir. Some key observations: 1. Basin variation: - Williston: >90% child wells - Appalachia: 60% child wells - Eagle Ford: 85% child wells - Permian: 75% child wells 2. Split Stability: Since ~2020, the parent/child split has remained relatively constant, reflecting consistent operator development strategies. 3. Evolving Dynamics: Average parent well production time now >4 years Average number of parents per child well: now 3.5 ((Both metrics have increased significantly since 2020)). 4. Performance Implications: Our modeling indicates these factors substantially impact infill child well performance, particularly crucial as a greater fraction of remaining inventory (especially in the Permian) involves infilling above or below existing parent developments. While not catastrophic by any means, these trends represent a persistent headwind to well performance. Operators must innovate with intelligent infill design to overcome these challenges. #oilgas #permian #reservoirengineering #infillwells

RESERVOIR is a large, artificial lake created by constructing a dam across a river to store water during the rainy season. Water; stored on the upstream of a dam; is later released during the period of low flows to meet the demand. Objective of the Value added Course on “RESERVOIR PLANNING” is to develop a deep understanding of Reservoir Planning. . . . .

President Tesseral Ai | Focused on delivering industry-best solutions to your critical problems especially with AI and machine learning.
One of the things we need to strive for in the seismic is permeability. We generally get lithology, porosity, and fluid content but understanding the faults and fractures shows us the permeability. Azer Mustaqeem shows with OpendTect spatial derivative of fault likelihood volume we can see the permeability conduit within a conventional faulted reservoir. This is where the seismic can be very helpful for reservoir simulation to understand fluid flow and it can help us with oil and gas production, CCS, geothermal, lithium extraction, etc. Thanks Azer!!!

A nice article about the latest technology in the coring world by Reservoir Group (Corpro)! #reservoirgroup #geothermal #drilling #reservoir #oilandgas #coring #Corpro #geology #corelab #geophysik
“Whilst back in the days, reservoirs we cored were often relatively “clean”, today we see increasingly complicated ones, especially more thinly-bedded successions”, says Steven Rait from Reservoir Group in a conversation about how the coring business has adapted to these challenges. https://lnkd.in/ebWC7Jfy
