This will come as a surprise to many of you: One of my more unspoken passions continues to be #boxing. Still! Even after soon 20 years of not stepping into that ring anymore myself. "Why on earth would a #mediator celebrate such a violent sport?", you may ask. Because of the mental and emotional toughness it requires. because it takes a warrior to step in there in a positive way - a warrior of #heart and mind. Just as it takes a warrior of heart and mind to step in a positive way between those who fight. Nobody finds better words for this than the great Teddy Atlas. if you find time, listen to his take on last weekends' mega fight of "King" Ryan against "The dream" Devin Hainey. https://lnkd.in/eQ2DewUw The entire world thought Garcia had gone coockoo in the lead up, displaying rather untypical behavior for a fighter, and wrote him off. When he pulled off the upset and beat Haney, everyone now thought he had fooled the world. Not Atlas though. He knew what he had seen. And he understood from 50 years of experience in accompanying boxers on that walk that sometimes people have to go to very strange places to find a way of making that incredibly difficult walk into their boxing ring. Often much more difficult than the fight itself. That for some, the only way to do this may at times be to hide in thick fog where one's own demons become invisible too. In fact, most of us know the agonizing moments of preparing for those fights, struggles or tests in life that hold what we desire most - and that which we fear most. When we watch these warriors, it is an opportunity and an invitation to reflect on our own choice of how we make the walk towards our very own little boxing ring. And to choose whether we hide in the fog or face the #demons.

When Passion Ruled the Court: A Look Back at the NBA's Golden Era 🏀 There was a time when NBA legends were defined not just by their skills, but by their unyielding heart. Think of Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and especially Allen Iverson. Remember the 2001 NBA Finals? Iverson, draped in hockey pads, went toe-to-toe with giants. Despite facing Shaquille O'Neal, he fearlessly charged into the lane, repeatedly enduring falls only to get back up and do it all over again. It wasn’t just a game; it was a testament to his spirit. 🏆 Fast forward to today, and the landscape feels dramatically different. The focus seems to have shifted towards endorsements, social media presence, and the easiest path to a championship ring. This isn't just about the game evolving; it's about what we value. The courage to stand up after being knocked down seems rare, replaced by a chase for fame and quick rewards. This change isn’t confined to sports. It mirrors a larger shift in our societal values, where the path of least resistance is often the most appealing. Effort, resilience, and personal accountability appear to be in short supply, not just on the court but in our daily lives and workplaces. 🔄 What’s your take on this shift? How do we inspire the next generation to value resilience and hard work over easy gains? https://lnkd.in/gpkESspn

In 2008, Tiger Woods faced a massive challenge at the U.S. Open, not at Augusta but at Torrey Pines. His left knee was in terrible shape, and he'd already had three surgeries on it. His doctor had advised him not to play. But Tiger, being Tiger, refused to give up. Throughout the tournament, he played in excruciating pain, limping from hole to hole. The world watched in amazement as he battled not just other golfers but also his own physical agony. On the 18th hole, with victory hanging in the balance, Tiger made an incredible putt that forced a playoff. He then won the playoff, a true testament to his determination and willpower. Tiger's 2008 U.S. Open win is a story of not giving up, no matter the odds. It's about pushing through pain and adversity to achieve something great. 🏆Embracing the Championship Mindset: Success Beyond the Gridiron Winning an NFL championship is an unparalleled feeling, yet everyone has their own championship moments in life. The preparation for such a moment is meticulous – it involves relentless training, mental fortitude, and unwavering dedication. The journey is filled with a myriad of emotions – from excitement and anticipation to nerves and pressure. Incorporating the essence of that championship mentality into everyday life is crucial. As the saying goes, "Amat Victoria Curam" – victory loves preparation. It's about being prepared for the ebbs and flows of life, recognizing that someone depends on your success. Sky Moore and I experienced this firsthand on the gridiron, but the significance extends beyond sports. Achieving success in life can profoundly impact your family's legacy. So, ask yourself, Are you prepared for life's challenges? What's stopping you from striving for success every day? Remember, every moment is an opportunity to build towards your own championship. How often do you focus on your fundamentals? There are so many places where we rely on muscle memory, or mental memory, instead of pausing to think about the habit we have formed and shortcuts that are part of that habit. As we wrap up the NCAA basketball season and all the games that... Read the Blog https://buff.ly/3Ugoasv

I once watched a group of ravens performing in what seemed an aerial competition. One raven, then another, nose-bombed to the ground by tucking in both wings, spreading wings, and lifting up. Two ravens flew close together, one over the other. One of them was flying upside down. They rolled. They switched roles. Now the second raven was flying upside down. A raven did a figure-eight. A raven did a loop-de-loop. I think they may have been juveniles practicing for their courtship dance in which a male and female raven will sometimes lock toes and somersault together in midair. Although ravens are especially acrobatic in breeding season, they play like this all year round, exulting in their freedom and control. They swoop and soar in ways we will always envy and desire. How do they fly upside down? I would look this up later. First, the bird has to contort one wing so that the uplift is greater on one side, flip over, and then stay flipped, sailing on the air current. Flying upside down usually lasts only a few seconds, although there are reports of ravens traveling upside down for half a mile. There are reports, too, of ravens flipping over and sticking their feet into the air to thwart an attack from another bird, a defense maneuver for which play is good training. Any excuse will do. Sorry, need to go fly upside down now. #ravens #freedom #play #aerial

What’s wrong with this picture? Firstly, it’s way too much change at once. My brain doesn’t want to have a bar of it. Sir Lewis, that we have come to know and love or loathe as a part of the (whole) Silver Arrow family, has severed his ties in exchange for a rather large horse. Secondly, really? This could be the best move in #F1history, or it could be a catastrophic disaster. Either way, I’m still unsure if I can process the news. Thirdly, I am now forced into a very undesirable position of torching my Mercedes and buying a Ferrari. So, does everyone process change the same way, or are we all equally as devastated by this shock decision since we all found out that Santa isn’t real? In short, no. BUT, change is a part of life, a part of work, a part of who we are to be able to evolve and “keeping pushing forward”, and we all respond differently. We question (or cry), we accept, we adapt, and then finally, we commit. Some organizations manage change exceptionally well and empower their people to embrace it. Others, unfortunately miss the point of change. I wonder how one of the most successful sporting enterprises in history (Mercedes lol) will adapt and overcome this change? If you have ever been through a period of change in your organisation, I want to hear about it! How did you adapt? Are there still challenges lingering? #change #changemanagement #sirlewishamilton #commitment #embracechange

Do you know about the University of Michigan's "secret weapon?" Meet Greg Harden. Throughout his remarkable 40-year career, Harden earned the title of Counselor in Chief for guiding thousands of Michigan students, including notable superstars like Tom Brady, Desmond Howard, Jalen Rose, and Michael Phelps. From helping athletes move away from a victim mindset and self-defeating behaviors, to teaching these current national champions how to "check in" with one another - he takes high achieving student athletes who are tired, overworked, and overwhelmed, and helps them understand them what they need to do and change to get different results. "They talked, he listened. He empathized, but never coddled or sugar-coated... he led them down a path to develop the mental tools and capacity to understand themselves and become better athletes and, more importantly, strong individuals." He refers to himself as the coach of both heart and mind, diligently guiding and nurturing the entirety of an individual. This is #wholepersoncoaching exemplified. Truly an extraordinary man. Imagine what you and your team could not only achieve, but experience, if you had a secret weapon like this in your corner 😉 https://lnkd.in/gwhV3ZNx #executivecoach #sportspsychology #gregharden #footballcoaching #football #wholepersonexecutivecoaching #executivecoaching
