It goes without saying that upstream interventions lead to positive outcomes down stream. Military to civilian transition is a crucial time to connect these service members and their families to available services in housing, health care, employment, education, benefits, and social enrichment. The DoD/VA Liasion Office has agreements with the states to share information that allows local County Veteran Service Officers to better reach transitioning service members. In North Carolina that data is not pushed down to counties. Any effort that doesn’t involve the counties/local communities at the grassroots level is missing the mark! Time for the state to give that contact data to the County Veteran Service Offices (CVSO) and the VA to let us be involved in programs like Solid Start. These things would better enable CVSOs to ensure we connect veterans to services. We need state and national veteran leaders to assist. The CVSOs are ready to work towards a goal of 100% contact with veterans moving back into our communities. Walter E. Gaskin, John Boerstler, Michael (Mike) Odle
Today, Governor Roy Cooper hosted a roundtable discussion on strategies to assist service members with transitioning from active duty to veteran status. The Governor was joined by LtGen Walter E. Gaskin, USMC (Ret.) & North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Secretary, North Carolina Department of Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders and along with several veterans and local business owners for the discussion. The realities of military service, deployments, training, and operational duties places significant constraints on female active-duty military members — especially those in communities like Naval Aviation, the Air Force, and the Space Force. Women in these careers often experience the most obstacles to family building. These women deserve to be recognized for the sacrifices they make and offered comprehensive healthcare that includes support for family building. See how we're supporting servicewomen in these communities. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ef5wGrwk #infertilitysupport #militaryinfertility #militaryfamilysupport #familybuilding

Navy Recruiter | Empowering 🇺🇸 Veterans through part-time Navy Reserve service | Military Transitioning Assistant | ANSO Public Affairs Officer
#MythBuster As a Navy Reserve Recruiter, I've engaged in numerous discussions with military veterans, and a recurring concern I've encountered is as follows: ❌ Myth: Veterans may not want to return to military service in the Reserves because they believe it will be too demanding and time-consuming, interfering with their civilian careers and personal lives. ⭕️ Truth: While Reserve duty does require some commitment, it's typically part-time and flexible, allowing Veterans to maintain their civilian jobs and lifestyles. Most Reserve units have monthly drills (1 wknd a month) and a few weeks of annual training (2 wks out of the year). The number one benefit of returning to service in the Navy Reserve is the opportunity to continue serving your country and maintaining a strong connection to the military while pursuing a civilian career. This can provide a sense of purpose and camaraderie, along with valuable training and benefits, such as education assistance and retirement benefits. #NavyReserve #MilitaryTransition #Veterans

I wrote a white paper a few years ago about the value of hiring veterans, and the paper is as true today as it was the day it was published. Thank you to each and every one of our veterans for your service to our great country! If you're interested, you can read the article here: https://lnkd.in/eBvKNvF
For the fifth year in a row, our department has been recognized by the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas Veterans Commission as a "We Hire Vets" employer. More than 32% of our officers are veterans, with four having served in the Army, two in the Navy, six in the Marine Corps, and one in the Air Force. Since World War II, the City of Lake Worth has had a strong partnership with the military and defense communities, and we're proud to continue the tradition of service within our police department through our veterans and department members. Here's to another five years! #WorthIt

Question for my military retirees who have transitioned into the civilian workforce. How have you responded when faced with peers/superiors advising you to throttle back or slow down? How have you negotiated for increased compensation/responsibility when throttling back is not an option for you?

Navigating half-term can be a challenge, particularly if you are doing it solo. The amount, patterns and types of parental absence faced by Royal Navy and Royal Marines families present additional challenges that are not routinely experienced by most civilian families. Check out our conversation with #Greenphire on current issues and priorities in #VA #research!
On this #VeteransDay, we express our deep gratitude and appreciation to all the brave men and women who have served in the United States military. Your selflessness and courage do not go unnoticed. In honor of this special day, Greenphire's Joe Gough, MA had the privilege of interviewing Hawk Tran, the Chief Operating Officer of NAVREF. Our conversation focused on NAVREF's ongoing initiatives aimed at improving veterans' access and awareness to clinical trials and how Greenphire is contributing to these efforts. Great to see the picture of the new recruits from the 64th annual St. Louis Cardinals Company. Our 66th St. Louis Cardinals Company will be sworn in at the June 13 St. Louis Cardinals game. The DOD and services also need to review the DOD instruction on permanently disqualifying (PDQ) issues and develop new policies based on modern military medicine and treatment. There is a benefit to recruiting more by reevaluating the DOD PDQ instruction. Additionally, empowering the senior officers in charge of each service’s recruiting command with greater waiver authorities would be a significant step forward.
