Glad to share with you that I have obtained a new certificate for the Good Clinical Practice (GCP) a course that is designed to prepare researchers for the conduct of clinical trials with human and/or animal studies. In this course, I learned about the comprehension of the Guidelines for Ethical Research Practice and the Guidelines for Ethical Animal Research Practice. The course profoundly significant for research beginners as it will provide you with the fundamental aspect of research.

I love supporting lab animal professionals with the important work that they do. Their work brings countless advances to science and medicine, yet they often are not supported enough emotionally in their work environments. Compassion fatigue rates in this population are high. I am looking forward to discussing this condition and how managers/supervisors and individuals can help protect lab animal professionals from developing it. Fernando Gonzalez Uarquin #mentalhealth #compassionfatigue #labanimalprofessionals #wellbeing #wellbeingcoach
Don’t miss out on Heather Hersh, PsyD’s webinar: "Understanding and Preventing Compassion Fatigue in Laboratory Animal Scientists and Professionals", part of the TARCforce3R monthly seminar series at University Medical Center Mainz 📅19 April, 14:00-16:00 (CEST) 🔗 Find the meeting link here: https://lnkd.in/eb-h2X5t Working in the field of animal research can be uniquely rewarding as well as challenging at the same time. Despite a dedication to the welfare of laboratory animals, animal caregivers and scientists frequently find themselves facing the ethical dilemma of conducting necessary but potentially stressful or painful procedures. This mix of both caring for the animals while also harming them, can lead to a conflict between personal beliefs and professional responsibilities. This internal conflict can result in emotional distancing and moral stress, leading to a phenomenon called 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘶𝘦. The ability to sympathize with the animals may diminish as a form of self-protection, and can have a significant impact on mental health and job satisfaction. At the 3RCU, we work towards an animal-free future for the biomedical research field. However, we also recognize the importance of addressing current challenges in the field. As part of the NC3Rs webinar series ‘Culture of care: Creating the right environment for animal care’, we helped to produce a series of case studies (in English, French, German and Dutch). We encourage animal care staff to review these, for example as part of a team meeting. Find them via: https://lnkd.in/efraHWcy)

Have you registered for our colloquium tomorrow? There's still time! Human-animal relationships are socially located and intertwine with social structures. In their research, Yana and Antonella are interested in how nonhuman animal companions in mixed-species households interact with the structure and discourses of childhood. Their particular focus is Western childhood, in which children are construed as innocent, naive, vulnerable, and in need of protection from topics and experiences that will catapult them out of childhood bliss and into adulthood angst. Nonhuman animal companions in mixed-species households may interact with and disrupt parents’ ability to protect childhood innocence. In this talk, Yana and Antonella present their in-progress research using semi-structured interviews with U.S.-based parents of children ages 3-7 and their nonhuman animal companions.
