🏡 The answer for quality audience engagement could lie closer to home. Reading about the three trends that will shape media strategy in 2024 by Damian Radcliffe at Digital Content Next I couldn't share more about the third area of focus for many media companies in the year ahead. Audience development. Four notes from this very interesting article. [link in the comments] 🪢 Alongside continued exertions to reach and engage with new audiences, businesses will be increasingly absorbed in efforts to deepen relationships with existing consumers. This will involve creating opportunities for interaction, dialogue and feedback, as well as moves to understand, and better serve, audience needs and preferences. 🧑✈️ A great remark from Dmitry Shishkin, who sees the opportunity for AI to be used as an “editorial co-pilot”. “Media success now thrives on differentiation and specialization,” he told Journalism.co.uk. That means an emphasis on “quality and focus,” he said, as newsrooms seek to “establish a compelling reason for repeated engagement.” 🌇 Media markets have changed, Kevin Anderson, FRSA argues, remarking that reaching large audiences through search and social and then serving them with ads is seldom a model that’s fit for purpose. “It’s all about relationships,” he notes. 🗝️ For other audiences and media outlets, the answer could lie closer to home, or in smaller (even niche) online communities. Media players will need to continually analyze audience needs and habits to find the solutions that are right for them. ---- So, yes, the answer lies at your home, your webpage, your journalism and your audience. In the latest edition of the Media Bulletin, we looked at the digital transformation efforts at two major media houses - Mediahuis nv and NTM AB. NTM wanted to restart their subscription growth after it stalled in 2020, and Mediahuis says that it needs more digital subscribers to reorient its business to digital. To achieve their ambitious digital subscription goals, both groups are focused on engaging young, mobile audiences. #mobilepublishing #digitaltransformation
