Freedom: Everybody’s Birthright Freedom does not mandate consensus and sameness. Freedom won’t be birthed by genocide and endless war, by believing the lies about who’s superior or inferior and who’s worthy or not of respect and love. Freedom won’t be found by caging others in, by dehumanizing and denaturing the mind, body and spirit of anyone or anything. Everybody ~ each and every body ~ all sizes, shapes, colors, self-expressions, and purposes, all intellects, lifespans, species and forms ~ is deserving of fresh air and clean water, ample nourishment, sunlight and fertile soil, and plenty of room to roam, to love and be loved, to rest, heal, learn and grow. Everyday we have the power to love each other or hurt each other, often forgetting our humanity. Many get hurt by words that cut deep. For the lucky ones, there is room left for healing and recovery. Then, there are those who get hurt through physical violence, altering their sense of being and taking what cannot be recovered. As you move through these holidays, do not forget about those suffering around the world. Remember your humanity and the power of compassion. Find some room in your heart for those rising from the rubble, living in fear, struggling for their human rights, and yearning for a loving and safe home. Search for compassion. Merry Christmas if you celebrate this day on 24th December. Many countries, such as Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, celebrate their special festive day today, with traditions often lost in the annals of history. There are so many rituals and religions, from pagan to Christian, from Saturnalia to winter solstice, and from Jewish to Muslim, and from Hindu to Buddhist to name but a few. But know this; any and all festivities and celebrations are opportunities for people to get together, and to remember the best of humanity. And what is best of humanity? Well, in my view, it means caring for and helping others whenever and wherever possible. It means ignoring our own selfish interests and demands, and focusing on the needs and wants of others. It means helping those less fortunate. It means connecting and reconnecting. And it means extending non-judgmental, unprejudiced unbiased and unconditional love to each and every living being on Earth. Love for humanity, for living things, and for our planet has no borders, no right and wrong, no winners and losers. And wouldn’t it be great if – at least for today – we could remember and celebrate that?
