I’ve heard a lot about inclusive culture, about welcoming people from various walks of life and co-existing in harmony, yet I never truly saw it in action until I arrived in the UAE.
Today, I witnessed a breathtaking scene of unity and respect that left me in awe. As non-Muslims celebrated Holi with vibrant colors, the Muslim community observed their fast during the holy month of Ramadan. But here’s where the beauty of true inclusivity shone through - those celebrating Holi were seen distributing Iftar meals outside mosques in Abu Dhabi. The sight of fasting and non-fasting individuals, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, coming together for Sehri and Iftar, embracing and being part of each other’s cultures, was profoundly moving.
I saw families, regardless of their beliefs, waiting together for the Adhan, breaking the fast in the spirit of unity, without a single voice claiming exemption due to different traditions. This seamless blend of cultures, this respect for one another’s beliefs, and the genuine act of coexisting is something I had only imagined, never experienced until now.
Coming from Pakistan, where diversity thrives in its own beautiful ways, witnessing this level of inclusivity in the UAE has been both inspiring and heartwarming. It’s a powerful reminder that despite our differences, respect and understanding can forge the strongest connections, transcending borders and beliefs.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the world around us, to learn from these acts of kindness and unity. In a world often divided, let’s champion the cause of inclusivity and mutual respect. Here’s to coexisting, not just in the UAE, but everywhere.
