🔬💧Calling all public health advocates, microbiologists, and water safety professionals! We're all aware of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1, the most commonly detected strain in outbreaks. However, we shouldn't forget that there are several serogroups of this bacterium, which have been associated with human disease. While serogroup 1 may get the most attention, the other serogroups can be equally harmful and warrant our attention too. Why does this matter? Effective detection and management of Legionella in water systems is crucial for preventing outbreaks and ensuring the health and safety of our communities. We owe it to ourselves and our communities to advocate for accurate rapid testing and preventive measures against all the serogroups 1-15 of Legionella pneumophila. Having the option to tell you if you have this species in your water system at the point of testing could be a valuable safety partner to sit alongside traditional (time-consuming) testing methods.
