The school year is in full swing and this is a time that can be challenging for the increasing number of youth who struggle with mental health issues, like depression and anxiety. There’s a lot to navigate with academics, the social dynamics – at school and on social media - and new distractions that take away from a youth's ability to focus. It’s okay to not be okay. And more importantly, it’s okay to seek help and resources. Whether you’re a parent, a student or an educator, check out the below resource toolkits from Mental Health America and @National Alliance on Mental Illness. Back to School: Youth and technology | Mental Health America (mhanational.org) https://lnkd.in/eDC9ZFU4 Access the links above for more info on how to: - Protect youth mental health in a digital world - Spot warning signs for bullying or depression - Be more mindful in the classroom, and - Help youth stay focused on their educational goals Though this time can be stressful and overwhelming, there’s a lot we can do to listen, support each other, and help create a thriving community that encourages open and honest conversations. #BacktoSchool #mentalhealth

Nebraska is suing TikTok over concerns about its impact on mental health. This highlights a critical issue: how exploitative algorithms and addictive designs are eroding the focus of our young people. These platforms are engineered to capture attention, often at the expense of their users' health, success, and happiness. We need to address these challenges head-on both at the access level (ensuring safe content platforms) and at the capacity level (providing young people with tools for managing their attention in ways that are in alignment with their goals). As we navigate this continuing mental health crisis, let’s advocate for healthier online environments that prioritize the well-being of our youth over engagement metrics. If you are a parent, grandparent or caregiver to a child or adolescent then you have been busy getting them settled into their new school year routine. A new school year is a time of excitement, but it can also be stressful, especially for youth who are already struggling with their mental health. It may surprise you that 1 in 6 children between the ages of 6-17 in the US experience a mental health condition every year. And these numbers have been on the rise. At GuideWell we believe there is no health without mental health. This means integrating mental health into everything we do, including offering community education on critical health topics like youth mental health. Recently, Debbie Del Rosario, LCSW and Dr. Kim Sundling, PharmD, BCPP from the Florida Blue Behavioral Health team hosted a webinar where they discuss what we can do to support youth mental health and create a world where young people can thrive. 🧠Teen Mental Health and Social Media📱👥 📚🧡 As a MentalHealthprofessional, I recognize the profound impact of social media on teen mental health. It's crucial to address this issue and provide support. 🤝 🔵 Educate and Empower: We must educate our students about the potential pitfalls of social media and empower them with strategies to navigate it safely. 🔵 Open Dialogue: Encourage open and non-judgmental conversations about their online experiences. Let them know they can come to you for guidance and support. 🔵 Balanced Usage: Teach the importance of a balanced online presence and offline life. Embrace the 5:1 rule – five positive interactions for every negative one. 🔵 Mental Health Resources: Ensure teens are aware of the mental health resources available within the school and community. Together, we can help our teens thrive both in real life and the digital world. Let's create a supportive environment that fosters their well-being and personal growth. 🌟💪 #TeenMentalHealth #SchoolCounseling #MentalHealthSupport

Promoting Mental Health Awareness in Schools and Universities As part of our commitment to mental health awareness, we recently participated in various classes, including the Zero Suicide Alliance training for university students. 🌟 Why Spreading Awareness Matters ? - Early Intervention : Educating children and young adults about mental health equips them with the tools to recognize signs early and seek help. Reducing Stigma : By openly discussing mental health, we break down barriers and reduce the stigma associated with seeking support. Creating Supportive Communities : Awareness initiatives foster empathy and create a supportive environment for those struggling with mental health challenges. Let’s continue this important conversation and empower the next generation to prioritize their well-being. #MentalHealthAwareness #YouAreNotAlone
