Dear project managers, Could I ask you to be precise in your emails? 📍If you send me an email saying that you need a translation from SR to AR, I normally assume that AR stands for Arabic, right? 📍And when further on in the exchange of our emails I find out that it was actually a translation job from Serbian to English, I get totally confused. 📍Upon which you tell me that the part Serbian to English was written in the instructions! 📍Well, that makes me even more confused because I don't understand why I would even click the link you sent me in the email if the very email says SR to AR? ❗In the end, you brush it all off by saying that it was assigned to another translator. I could be wrong but is this 'gaslighting'??? #translation #job #litranslators

I have received 3 "Dear sir" emails, one "dear team" and one "Hello Ayla & Raisa" job application emails. Guess which one was the first one I answered? "Hello Ayla and Raisa". Why? Easy... 🔸 The person took the time to find out who we are Ayla Carazo and Raisa Carazo - Chartered Linguist. A team of two sisters who run a technical translation company. ✅ 🔸 The services offered were for English into Spanish, (not Malay into English). So, the person took the time to learn what we do. ✅ 🔸 This person shared the importance we give to: ▫️Membership with professional bodies. This shows a commitment to the standards of the industry. We like that! ✅ ▫️ A record of continuous professional development. This shows a commitment to yourself and your services. And again, we like that! ✅ We were less enthusiastic for the people who: 🔸Didn't take the time to find out who we are and what we do. 🔸Didn't realise we don't speak or work in Chinese or Arabic 🔸Sent us poorly written emails. We are language specialists after all. And, so are you. (𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑚𝑎𝑟𝑘) When sending an email out selling your services it: 🔹Pitch to the right people.
