No One Left Behind: Building an Inclusive Future for the LGBTQI+ Community!!! Every year, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for LGBTQI+ rights. This year's theme, "No One Left Behind," emphasises the critical need for a world that celebrates diversity and guarantees equality, freedom, and justice for all. While recent years have seen progress towards LGBTQI+ inclusion, significant challenges remain. The LGBTQI+ community continues to face marginalisation and social exclusion. We, at YNCSD, are dedicated to fostering an inclusive future where these challenges are overcome. Read full blogpost here>>> https://lnkd.in/dJgJNR5u #IDAHOBIT2024

Lead of Culture, Ethos, and Wellbeing - Teacher of Science & Maths - Senior Mental Health Lead - MHFA - LGBTQIA+ Advocate
Schools need to be and feel safe for our students. It would be difficult to find an educator who disagreed with this. Do you believe it needs to be safe for our SEND students? A place that works to combat violence against women and girls? A place where people from all religions and cultures feel safe? These are just some of the protective charteristics we will see in our students. Trans students are another ("gender reassignment"). They deserve the right for school to be a safe space, for the voices to be heard, for their rights and data protection to be respected just as much as an individual of any age. One of the single most important things you can do this month if you believe all students should be safe, is read the #supportiveschools guidance and respond to the government's draft non-statutory guidance around trans students. Many lawyers have already outlined the ways in which suggested practices by the government violate existing laws and statutory guidance: from KCSIE to Equality Act 2010, from GDPR to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Let's let the government know that we stand with an equal society for all and for keeping our children safe. Follow the links below.
We are part of the #SupportiveSchools coalition, and we are calling on the Government to listen to LGBT+ youth and rethink their approach to the exclusionary and unhelpful draft guidance on trans students for England. Join us and take action by responding to the public consultation on the guidance, which is open until 12 March. The coalition have created a guide to responding effectively, which you can access on our campaign webpage: https://lnkd.in/gDyjQwVg

Celebrate LGBT+ History Month with inclusive classrooms all year round! As we enter LGBT+ History Month, it's the perfect time to reflect on how we can foster true belonging for all students in our schools. While dedicated lessons and displays are valuable, sustainable inclusion requires cross-curricular integration throughout the year. This insightful article by Mel Lane in Schools Week offers two little approaches that can have a big impact: drop-ins, and visibility. 🔗https://lnkd.in/eT-fvR4Q

May 17th: International Day Against LGBTphobia – A Commitment to Equality The International Day Against LGBTphobia, celebrated on May 17th, is a fundamental date for us to reaffirm our commitment to equality and respect. This day reminds us of the importance of combating all forms of discrimination that affect the LGBTQIA+ community, promoting an environment where everyone can live freely and without fear. LGBTphobia remains a serious problem in many places, manifesting itself through violence, exclusion and prejudice. As we celebrate this date, we reinforce the need for concrete actions to protect the rights and dignity of LGBTQIA+ people. Every gesture of support, every word of encouragement and every action of inclusion makes a significant difference in the lives of many. This May 17th, let's join forces and work together to create a more just and inclusive society. Encourage dialogue, educate yourself and support the LGBTQIA+ community. Our solidarity and commitment are essential to building a future where everyone can be authentic and live with pride. by.
