Morning ☕️ It’s been a year in a DE&I role and I’ve achieved nothing. Ok, so maybe I’m being hard on myself but what I hoped to achieve is taking a lot longer than what I thought. It’s been a while since I’ve posted on LinkedIn because imposter syndrome had kicked in and I wasn’t sure what to talk about. But, after moving past the January blues I thought I’d share my takeaways for anyone looking to step into their first DE&I role: ✅Be patient, with yourself, with your colleagues, with the industry. Things take time, you could be working on one thing for 10 months and not see it come to fruition for another 10 months. ✅Learn how to enforce your boundaries. Our role is people focussed and it gets emotional sometimes. If you let everyone pour into you who do you pour into? ✅You can only do what you can do. Don’t think you’re going to change the world because it doesn’t work like that. Just know your efforts will and are making a difference. ✅Quality over quantity. So what if only 10 people turned up to that session. 10 people learnt something. Here’s to a new year of trying to make a difference. #diversityandinclusion #january2024

Executive and Team Coach 🔥. MSc in Coaching from Henley Business School . Certified Myers Briggs (MBTI) and NLP Practitioner. Accredited Time to Think Facilitator.
If you want to learn how to create a sense of belonging in your workplace and how be an ally then this book is a great place to start. 🔥 Suzy Levy was my “career counsellor” at accenture; she was a mentor and confidante as I returned to work after having children. I was very lucky to have her at my side. The book is full of useful facts and insights about the realities of inequality and offers excellent advice on what we can each do about it. A brilliant, practical guide 📚

If you are in search of a job, here are some counter questions you can ask a potential employer to better assess your potential fit in the organisation. The employer employee relationship is a two way street, if it is going to work you both need to be pulling in the same direction.
Advisor, Author, Lecturer and Keynote Speaker | HBR Contributor | Leadership, Culture and Organisational Politics Expert
At the kind invitation of Cathy Sims I’m giving a talk next week for INEUCS - the largest, most prestigious graduate recruitment and advisory network in the world. I'll be speaking to people from leading employer and careers advisory associations about building cultural and political intelligence in organisations. As part of the many things on power and politics I will cover, I'll be including this table (originally from Lameez Subaya) in my presentation and am really looking forward to posing the same question that Ansari Shabman had: “This hits me on the head about the ‘inter’ in interview. At what point in history did ‘inter’views become a one way street?’ Quite.

It’s Stampede time in Calgary! WABE’s Secretary/Treasurer Cameron Thomson stopped in Diversified’s Kickoff Soriee and meetup with Ken Gould and Calaigh Copland. Connecting with WABE friends at industry events reminds us we are not alone in the work we do. Taking time to meet new people working in your field can give you an alternative perspectives, a chance for creative ideas to be seeded or a feeling of pride sharing your career story. Engaged employees tend to have stronger relationships with their bosses, are better prepared to tackle new challenges and changes, feel more valued by their employers, manage stress more effectively, and experience greater overall life satisfaction. At WABE we believe there is value in connecting and providing a space and events for our industry friends and business to gather. https://wabe.ca
