We want to say a huge thank you to Dr. Jean Kaseya, director general for the Africa CDC, for mentioning ONE Campaign's research on G7 aid levels during last week's Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance investment launch and the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator. The G7's share of aid to Africa is at its lowest point in 50 years. It's time for G7 leaders to get out of the past and start prioritizing partnerships with Africa and financing our future. 💪 Strengthening the supply chain for health products is a critical part of Africa’s #NewPublicHealthOrder and the #TeamEurope approach to supporting manufacturing and access to vaccines, medicines and health technologies in Africa. 💉💊 I’m excited to be representing #TeamEurope and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH this week at the African Vaccine Supply Chain Forum convened by African Union, Africa CDC and CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) on a panel hosted by IFC - International Finance Corporation. I expect a robust discussion about the important role that the private sector and development finance institutions can play in helping meet the demand for local vaccine and medicine production on the continent. Learn more about GIZ's approach to strengthening health systems around the world ➡ https://lnkd.in/enNxBSdK
Africa CDC in collaboration with #CEPIVaccines will co-host the African Vaccine Supply Chain Forum with a focus on Futureproofing #Africa’s vaccine supply chains. The meeting will convene African Union Member States, Regional Economic Communities #RECs, Manufacturers, Local & International material suppliers, Donors, Funders and Partners. The meeting aims to ensure #AfricanVaccineManufacturing does have access to uninterrupted & timely access to key inputs materials. #PAVM #NewPublicHealthOrder

Curator: The Africa Gatekeepers♻️ | EU's Carbon Wall Adjustment Mechanism on Africa | Migration Governance | Pro-Africanism
THE AFRICA GATEKEEPERS: Immanuel Wallerstein in the 1970s embarked on the theory of the World System Analysis, where he argued about the rise of the new capitalist world economy where Europe (the West) would gain advantage and control over most of the world economies and presided over the development and spread of industrialization and capitalist economy, indirectly resulting in unequal development. Many people criticized his theory and requested his head be cut off. Not only did Wallerstein detail the imbalance of trade among countries that would ensue after the demise of feudalism, but the theory synergized with the dependency theory to emphasize how the so-called global North exploited the global South economically and otherwise. Fast forward to the era of viruses, the outbreak of COVID-19 shows that Africa could not communicate what it wants in terms of procurement and manufacturing of healing powders known as vaccines. Africa depended on the importation of vaccines from Europe to be administered to patients. Vaccines manufactured in Africa were discredited by the World Health Organization and the West, citing vaccine manufacturing incapacity. Africa is solely dependent on the West to survive economically and otherwise. What is the position of African leaders as Africa is not given its rightful place in the comity of nations? ~IamCompassion 🪴

Covid 19 revelations During the pandemic the dysfunction at the heart of racialized global systems that are based on greed, selfishness and absence of solidarity was on display. The world saw wealthy countries hoard vaccines, restrict travel and do little to deal with the knock-on effects of slowing tourism and trade. The collapse of countries on the African continent did not happen. The dismissal of the ability of countries in the global South showed up the hypocrisy of health cooperation. Now law suits and investigations are providing more evidence of the rot at the core. Whether it’s health crises, climate emergencies, extreme weather or the combination of these factors, our world must do better at responding where all human beings are respected. #systemschange #healthsystems #justice

Global Director for Health, Education, Tourism, Retail, and Property International Finance Corporation - World Bank Group
I'm thrilled to announce that next week, I'll be part of the Africa Vaccine Supply Chain Forum in Nairobi, Kenya. This pivotal event, hosted by Africa CDC, Partnerships for African Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM), and CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations), is dedicated to enhancing vaccine supply chains across Africa. Discussions will focus on how to increase local manufacture of critical input materials, a necessary part of building strong and reliable medical supply chains. By localizing production, we can not only ensure health security across the continent but also involve more African Union member states in manufacturing efforts, building capacity and opportunities. To make this a reality, regional and global partners, donors, and funders all must play an active role, and I’ll be talking about how IFC can support this during the panel on stakeholder engagement that I’m joining. I’ll also be leading an IFC-organized session looking at what can be done to operationalize recommendations coming out of the Forum. This session will provide private sector players with the opportunity to discuss the challenges they experience in strengthening local manufacturing, and then hear from development finance institutions and donors on what they can do to create the right environment for successfully strengthening the supply chain in Africa. As we address challenges faced by local vaccine manufacturers and strategize how to ensure over 60% local production of vaccines in Africa by 2040, our collective efforts signal a move towards a self-sufficient, empowered continent. #IFCHealth IFC - International Finance Corporation

This article takes a look at the African push for Intellectual Property (IP) reform and how this movement has been tempered to protect for-profit medicine. "Twice in this century, it has been shown that the combination of wealth and medical innovation can overrun the interests of the public." writes Sandra Mogeni. Learn about South Africa vs. Big Pharma, the TRIPS Agreement and the COVID-19 vaccine inequality. ➡️ Read the full post Striving for Equal Access to Life-Saving Medications for Africans by Sandra Mogeni here: https://lnkd.in/dn7gefQc
