Our CEO Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli recently sat down with Devex to discuss why she decided to join ONE. At first, she didn't think it was the right fit. But then she reflected on the urgent need for African voices on the global stage. She realized being CEO of ONE was "an opportunity to ensure we work with African leaders to have a shared vision about what Africa wants, not what the world thinks we need.” “Africa has always been at the center of ONE’s work and our new strategy puts African leadership and agency in sharper focus. Africa’s demand will shape our campaigns and guide our delivery.” Read more about Ndidi's leadership journey (which began at age 12 selling avocados at a local market), her entrepreneurial success, and her vision for ONE and the world. https://lnkd.in/ezFRYH88

Am honored to be among the speakers at the 9th Saccos Leaders Convention happening this week and hosted by Kuscco. As a board member in a Sacco and a consultant in the movement, am excited to be speaking on board Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as the new landscape for Saccos. Gracing the convention will be the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Cooperatives and MSME Development, other leaders in ministry, the regulator and industry at large. As a strategy, tech, and financial consultant in the movement, I will be demonstrating how boards that embrace diversity are shown to be more innovative, more adaptable to change, and more successful at navigating the complexities of the global and local markets. Effective Diversity, Equity and Inclusion practices are not just about fulfilling ethical standards; they are about tapping into a wealth of varied perspectives and experiences to drive better decision-making and enhance organizational resilience and performance. The Sacco sector can no longer be ignored as is a major contributor to the development of Kenyan economy and specifically MSMEs country wide. Data from the State Department of Cooperatives shows savings grew by 15.6 percent to Sh1.047 trillion in the year to June 2023 from Sh906 billion, marking a major milestone for Kenya’s cooperatives movement and still growing. This is one sector that has promotes a saving culture to Kenyans throughout the years. #deistrategy #economicoutlook #financialempowerment

Author, The Tech That Comes Next | tech + strategy + impact | Executive Advisor | Board Member | Keynote Speaker
Congratulations to Marcia Ashong-Sam, MCIArb on being named one of the 100 most influential Africans! I really enjoyed this write-up of Marcia Ashong-Sam, MCIArb and The Boardroom Africa. I've had the pleasure of getting to know Marcia as we've both been @B-WEL Fellows this year. (I've also joined TBrA as a member.) Marcia truly combines vison and strategy with grace and strength. Study after study shows the positive impact diversity on boards has on corporations. Yet, we still do not see a great deal of diversity on corporate boards. Marcia and the team at The Boardroom Africa are working to change that by providing training, developing relationships, and sourcing qualified female candidates for board seats. In her words: “I saw how systems were guiding women away from being part of the decision making. I saw how difficult it was to keep going at the rate I was without being pushed down by the patriarchal setting. There was a constant need to always have allies, to work harder than everybody else...When I see a gap in the social fabric, I want to do something about it. But I wanted to come from a business-case perspective… to being a really practical solution for business, merging the traditional advocacy approach with the need for business to maximise profits. Add to that the importance of creating access to opportunity and how we continue to give women the resources they need to build their leadership capacity. It was important that TBrA took a multi-pronged approach.” https://lnkd.in/erH5yx3U #Leadership #Strategy #Africa #Boards #CorporateBoards

The Ascend Fund is committed to achieving a representative democracy where political institutions reflect the richness of our communities both in appearance and experience. Since 2020, our partners have trained more than 78,000 women to run for office and more than 1,600 have run – 770 of whom have won – but there is still more work to do. 👉 Did you know that 64 countries across the world are expected to hold national elections in 2024? That's big news but let's not forget the number and power of local elections, which often take place in odd years, especially in the U.S. The Ascend Fund is a collaborative fund dedicated to accelerating the pace of change toward gender parity in U.S. politics. Since 2020, the fund's partners have trained 78,000+ women, contributing to a more than 10% increase in women serving in office over this period. Read more about The Ascend Fund in its 2023 Impact Report and learn how you can support efforts to invest in women's political leadership. https://bit.ly/48U5eUw
