**ATTENTION RECENT GRADS!** I’m hiring for an entry level social media role!
If you’re looking to break into the world of Brand Social Media, I have a great opportunity that has just opened on my team. The Social Media Community Manager role at Northwestern Mutual is an entry level position on our corporate marketing team, and is also my absolute favorite role to hire for. 🤩🤩🤩
The last person we hired into this role has been promoted to a Brand Social Media Manager role, and I’m excited to get to bring in someone new who is passionate about launching a career in social media.
Past social media community managers that I have had the pleasure of working with have gone on to work in senior marketing roles at companies like TikTok, Meta, WalMart, Airbnb, Microsoft, Marriott, Disney, and more; in fact, I’m a former social media community manager myself! As social media is so incredibly cross-functional, a community manager role is a really fantastic way to learn the ropes of a complex marketing organization.
So what does my ideal community manager candidate look like?
1. You might be a recent college graduate with relevant past internship experience in PR or Marketing. Alternatively, you may have 1-2 years of work experience doing social, paid media, or content at an agency or for a smaller business, and are interested in moving to an in-house role with a large brand.
2. You’re a passionate consumer of social media personally and usually know what’s trending and what’s cringe. I’m not necessarily looking for someone who is a content creator themselves (though if you are, that’s great too.) Rather, I want someone who enjoys scrolling TikTok and Instagram, and follows not only their friends but also brands and influencers whose content they enjoy.
3. You’re eager to learn and open to feedback. This is an early career opportunity, so I don’t expect you to come in knowing everything there is to know about social. But I do expect my community managers to come to work each day ready to try new things, hungry to learn from their more experienced colleagues, and prepared to brainstorm solutions to their own challenges and come up with unique ways to “make things work”.
4. You’ve got solid writing and verbal communications skills, as well as an analytical side; you’re not afraid of working with numbers and data.
Sound like you or someone you know? This role can be located in either New York or Milwaukee, where we work in a hybrid manner with 2-3 days in office per week, but the rest working from home.
