Join the group, introduce yourself and let's take it from there 🙌   Here is some context about this idea and how it came about, so read on if you want the long version of my part of the story.  👇 I arrived in New Zealand in 2016 to embark in a doctoral research journey focusing on how migrants articulate their identity in Aotearoa. One of the big challenges that came through our conversations was the sense of lost connections: personal, but also professional. Many of us terribly miss having a crew of like-minded people that support our mahi, have our back, lift us up and keep us real and strong. For me, that got even more real when me and my husband decided to make New Zealand our home. Moving countries can feel a lot like being unplugged from our energy sources. For those of us doing purpose-driven work, the power of community, of a collective that keeps us connected is immense. However, for many of us who did not grow up in Aotearoa those professional connections may not happen easily. We are exploring ways to change that. Purpose Alliance is dreamt as a community of people from all over the world doing purpose-driven mahi for social good in Aotearoa: a hub for social innovators, systems change activators, doers, dreamers, movers, shakers. We are creating a space for migrants doing mahi that drives positive social change in our new home, to come together and make each other stronger through: ·       Connections and support ·       Collaboration and shared practice ·       Knowledge-sharing and mentoring ·       And whatever else we decide we need more of… Let’s build this together. #GetTogether project provides resources for mentees to integrate into Croatian society The #GetTogether project is not just a programme where we help mentees adapt to life in the new society. The aim of the project is to support refugees and asylum seekers in the process of becoming self-sufficient and establishing their life in Croatia. During the course of the project, mentees are working with their mentors to overcome the difficulties they have to face upon arriving in Croatia, thus developing their resilience. During meetings with their mentors beneficiaries are practicing their language skills and look for the job together, which boosts their self-esteem and self-confidence. Developing a relationship with their mentor helps mentees get accustomed to the local culture and mentality and also develops their cultural competencies. Cultural events and group gatherings of mentees help them get to know other asylum seekers and refugees that face the same issues thus expanding their social circle and improving emotional well-being.
