How dependable are your delivery methods? Quo vadis parcel services – is slower the better way? Delivering a parcel within a delivery time of 24 hours is the existing standard service offered by parcel services. Weak demand, combined with rising personnel and regulatory costs, is leading to tough price competition. At the same time, the standard services of the parcel services are recording heavy losses, as the results of Hermes and DPD show. On the one hand, there is a need to acquire volumes in order to utilise the networks. On the other hand, the willingness to pay is falling – and customers are demanding faster delivery with new services. But how can this dilemma be resolved? The question is whether next-day delivery or 24-hour delivery times are really always necessary. Consumers primarily want reliability and information in shipping, but not necessarily speed. Bundling parcels over the course of the week could therefore be a market-compatible way to better utilise routes and make them more efficient. Faster means express at a higher price; standard means slower but cheaper. However, this is only possible if a high percentage of reliability is guaranteed. It would be up to the shipper to decide which delivery speed is important to them and at what price. #logistics #deliveryservice #cep #ecommerce #delivery

How last-mile carriers handle delivery issues can make or break the delivery experience. The ability to satisfactorily handle all delivery problems begins before they occur. It starts with understanding the shipper’s needs: - Does the shipper want a single or multiple re-attempts, or no re-attempts at all? - Does the shipper want the carrier or driver to reach out to the customer directly if more info is needed (access code, address correction, special instructions, etc.), or - Does the shipper want to manage that communication themselves? AxleHire is flexible enough to accommodate exception handling to align with the brand's needs. The article below discusses the trend of faster delivery speeds. 2023/2024 is seeing the fastest delivery times in history. However, its unlikely that delivery speeds will get much faster for the time being. “We can be in that three to five day click-to-deliver timeline,” said Laura Ritchey, COO at e-commerce fulfillment provider Radial. “It gets really expensive to go faster than that.” Cost mitigation plans are what holds companies back from breaking this "three to five day" delivery time line. Big companies are switching to more regional fulfillment models in order to lower shipping costs. https://lnkd.in/gdwip59S Gulshan Singh, PhD Margaret A. Kidd, CMILT, CPE™ #SCLT4380

You want to reduce your parcel costs, parcel damages, and time in transit for your customers. You’ve zeroed in on zone skipping as a way to achieve your goals. Now what? 🚀 Data Analysis: Review shipping data to pinpoint areas with significant order volumes. This helps identify ideal regions for zone skipping and ensures a large enough volume of shipments to justify splitting off volume from either the existing provider's hub-and-spoke network transportation flow or diverting volume from your existing provider to newer ones. 🚀 Provider Selection: Partner with providers who have expertise in zone skipping. Working with providers that have last-mile expertise is a must. Evaluate their networks and capabilities to ensure they can deliver efficient and dependable transport. 🚀 Packaging Optimization: Make sure you calculate your packaging savings and talk with your fulfillment team to take full advantage of the solution, using dry ice for sensitive perishables to reduce damages. This saves costs by optimizing the amount used for temperature control and cushioning in the boxes. 🚀 Tracking and Visibility: Ensure you’re working with providers offering live tracking and can feed that tracking through to your end customer’s tracking link. This allows customers to monitor the progress of their shipments and decreases WISMO calls to your customer service center instead of seeing shipments stuck at a sortation center in the middle of nowhere! #innovation #retail #technology #middlemile #logistics #supplychain
