Technology was once considered a threat to the legal department's traditional methods. However, as most in-house counsels will now agree, technology has a lot to offer their industry, especially when using it to automate contract reviews and Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM). Contracts are a vital part of everyday life for businesses, defining their relationships with employees, suppliers, and stakeholders. To protect business interests, all contracts should be examined thoroughly to ensure their clauses and terms are robust, legal and financial risk is minimised, and the contracts are accurate and error-free. Due to this, reviewing a contract requires legal expertise and the ability to interpret the legal language. However, it can also be longwinded and tedious, swallowing up a huge chunk of time. In this article, we explore contract reviews and AI, the pros and cons, as well as bringing AI in-house with CLM. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eYgBpB7J #AI #contractreviews #CLM #legaltech

In a groundbreaking feat, artificial intelligence (AI) has achieved a major milestone in the legal world: negotiating a contract autonomously with another AI, without any human intervention. This landmark achievement was accomplished by Luminance, a British AI firm specializing in legal document analysis software. Luminance's Autopilot feature, powered by their proprietary large language model (LLM), is designed to revolutionize the legal industry by automating tedious contract negotiation tasks. This AI system can analyze, suggest changes, and even finalize contracts, freeing up lawyers' time for more strategic work. Here's a glimpse into how Autopilot works: (a) AI vs. AI Negotiation: Two AIs, representing different parties, engage in a back-and-forth negotiation, just like human lawyers would. (b) Clause Analysis and Redrafting: Autopilot identifies contentious clauses and proposes modifications based on legal knowledge and the company's negotiation preferences. (c) Real-time Transparency: The entire process is documented, allowing human lawyers to monitor progress and intervene if necessary. Benefits of AI-powered Contract Negotiation: (i) Increased Efficiency: Autopilot can handle routine negotiations in a fraction of the time it takes human lawyers, significantly boosting productivity. (ii) Reduced Costs: Automating repetitive tasks can free up lawyers for higher-value work, potentially leading to cost savings for clients. (iii) Improved Accuracy: AI-powered systems can analyze contracts more thoroughly and consistently, minimizing the risk of errors or overlooked clauses. While this technology is still in its early stages, it has the potential to significantly transform the legal landscape. As AI becomes more sophisticated, we can expect to see even more automation in the legal field, freeing up lawyers to focus on the finer aspects of their work, such as providing strategic advice and building client relationships.
