"Together with my team of account managers and customer support staff, I am responsible for the countries/regions the Nordics, Italy, Spain, the UK, Ireland and Poland. I always try to be customer-oriented, such as: which approach suits this customer best?" What do you enjoy most about your work? "The versatility! I also find the international aspect a huge plus. I am constantly in contact with people from different cultures. This sometimes presents challenges, but with constructive feedback I break through those cultural differences. We both want to enjoy working together and build a good relationship. And I try to play into that!" What are your hobbies? "Going to the gym and running, but also Italian wine and especially vineyards in Italy. I enjoy going on a holiday with my family to Italy to visit a local vineyard and of course buy wine!" What would you do if you had a year's salary without having to work? "Travel a lot. I have children, so then you can't go very far away. That's why hiring a van and travelling around Europe seems really cool." Which country is at the top of your bucket list? "I would love to go on a safari in South Africa, but travelling through Asia is also definitely at the top of my bucket list. Vietnam in particular seems like a great country to travel through!" Do you have a role model or someone who inspires you? "Not really. Or do writers count too? Then surely Yuval Noah Harari. Not in terms of the person, but the books he writes. Great books and beautifully written. Definitely highly recommended!"

We sat down with Peter to learn more about him and his journey at Markwell Foods. 👉 Can you sum up your role in a couple of sentences and tell us what a typical day looks like for you? I am the leader of the Asian sales team, managing two colleagues. I oversee several Asian distributors primarily based in Auckland, with a few outside of the area. My colleagues primarily handle Asian retail and butcher stores in the Auckland region. I typically communicate with customers via email, phone calls, and social media (WeChat, WhatsApp), arranging regular visits. I handle deals and problem-solving on a daily basis. 👉 Reflecting on your journey with Markwell Foods so far, what are the highlights or key learnings you'd like to share? Highlights: Working hard to maintain market share, sell more products, and grow the business. Key learnings: I've learnt it's key to understand the needs and demands of our customers, continually striving to meet and exceed their expectations. 👉 In your opinion, what are the most important factors in building and maintaining strong customer relationships, and how do you apply these in your interactions? Understanding customers' needs through active listening and building relationships based on integrity are crucial. I apply these principles by consistently delivering on promises, addressing concerns promptly, and maintaining open, honest communication. 👉 How do you stay up to date on industry trends, challenges and opportunities, and how does this knowledge inform your approach to serving our diverse set of customers? I stay current on industry trends by continuously updating my knowledge of the food industry, exploring new product developments, and understanding market competition and risks. This enables me to help customers develop and grow their businesses. 👉 What do you like to do outside of work? I am a fan of sports, I play soccer and table tennis on a regular basis.
