The car's role in American policing, incarceration, and debt is deeply intertwined. Traffic stops often lead to fines and harassment, disproportionately affecting Black individuals. Cars also drive auto debt, predatory loans, and criminalization, creating a cycle of financial entrapment. To break this cycle, experts propose removing police from traffic duties, implementing income-based fines, enforcing usury caps on auto loans, and closing debtors' prison loopholes. Ultimately, they advocate for reparations, removing highways from impoverished communities, and investing in sustainable public transit to end the car's harmful impact on society. https://lnkd.in/g2bnz9sC #TrafficStops #PoliceReform #CriminalJustice #AutoLoans #Inequality

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month! I joined Truckers Against Trafficking in 2023 after learning the truth about the second highest crime in the world which is also the highest growing crime in the world, human trafficking. Human Trafficking has surpassed Weapons Trafficking and us poised to surpass Drug Trafficking soon enough. From slavery to forced sex, from child labor to child sex trafficking, and much more. These evil people and corporations are using our own people to make money off other evil people and are doing it out in the open right in front of us and unfortunately they often use truck stops for transferring, transporting, and exporting their victims. Knowing it's a problem is one thing, being vigilant of the problem is another. Truckers Against Trafficking offers free training to all of us in the trucking industry to learn some basic aspects and signs of human trafficking so that if we see something questionable you can identify it and know a number to call to get help. The number is anonymous and if your report something that turns out to be nothing there is no penalty. One call could save dozens of lives. https://lnkd.in/gPzbiZdF Check out Truckers Against Trafficking to learn how you can make a difference. #humantrafficking #humantraffickingawareness #humantraffickingprevention #truckingindustry #provensafetysolutions

Seemingly routine traffic stops can have serious and harmful consequences for people who experience racial profiling and stop-and-frisk style policing. Our new research shows that consistently across cities, "Police were more likely to use force at traffic stops if the driver was Black... regardless of stop reason, whether the stop involved a search, whether a search found contraband, and whether the encounter resulted in a warning, arrest, or citation." These findings show why ending police enforcement of non-safety stops, which are more likely to lead to police violence, is imperative for meaningful road safety. I mean.... Was he sleeping during the Super Bowl Parade Mass Shooting Footage? Almost 5,000 people have died in U.S. gun violence so far in 2024 There have been more than 49 mass shootings in 2024 so far, which is defined by the Gun Violence Archive as an incident in which four or more victims are shot or killed. If you actually consider they should not track mass shootings by number of deaths but instead number of 4 more shot that number is significantly larger. You just don't hear about all of them because they keep them under wraps. Kind of hard to do though when it's a Super Bowl Parade when millions are watching, unlike most other mass shootings. As always, the issue is NOT the guns. It is the people. Until they realized Mass Shootings are not about the consequences, they will never get them under control. Mass shooters intend to die with their victims 9 times out of ten, so the consequence of acquiring guns illegally is not a concern. Not to mention they can easily build them these days. Those trying to take the automatic weapons need to wake up. They can be easily built, and criminals don't care if it's legal or not. People who want to commit crimes with guns will get the guns. There are so many willing to sell them to them and they can steal them, build them, 3d print them... etc etc.. they do not need to register them, so they have no fear of the stronger laws. All that would do it take protection from the law-abiding citizens, leaving the weapons in the hands of the criminals... Thanks for reading the rant!

Safer Redhill: Targeted police activity in Redhill results in 56 arrests A partnership initiative to improve safety in #Redhill has resulted in 56 arrests along with the recovery of drugs, cash and knives. Surrey Police’s targeted activity is part of a comprehensive community plan to reduce crime and help foster pride in the town centre. Earlier this year, Surrey Police, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, the Police and Crime Commissioner and YMCA East Surrey announced they had joined forces with local partners to address crime and anti-social behaviour in Redhill. This action followed a survey for residents and visitors to the town which highlighted community concerns around anti-social behaviour (ASB), drugs, shoplifting and violent crime. Over the past six months, partners have been developing and implementing measures to reduce crime as part of the Safer Redhill programme. Under this initiative, Surrey Police is conducting proactive operations within Redhill to target and remove criminals operating in the town. This is some of the police activity that has taken place over the past two months: · 56 arrests for offences including drugs, drink driving, assault, shoplifting, going equipped for burglary and immigration offences. · 21 people charged and 39 community resolutions for lower-level offences. · 200+ searches with 26 drug seizures (including 10kg of suspected cocaine), along with the recovery of £17,700 in cash and seven knives. · Joint operations at Redhill train station with British Transport Police and rail enforcement officers to target county lines drug dealing. · Night-time patrols of the town centre with plain clothed behaviour detection officers to identify suspicious or predatory behaviour. · Work with local businesses to conduct days of action focused on stopping shoplifters. · 11 joint licensing visits with Reigate and Banstead Borough Council to support premises in keeping patrons safe. · Patrols of the surrounding road network to disrupt criminals and target driving offences which resulted in 58 Fixed Penalty Notices. · Regular community engagement in the town centre and with local schools. Reigate and Banstead Borough Commander Inspector Jon Vale said: “This initiative is about reducing crime in Redhill for the long-term. Surrey remains the fourth safest county in the UK, but from speaking with residents we know there are concerns about specific patterns of behaviour within the town. It’s important that we are challenging all levels of criminality, as often it can be through disrupting offences such as anti-social behaviour and shoplifting we can see the links, and look to prevent, serious and organised crime in the area. “The increase in arrests reflects the targeted operations taking place in Redhill and I want to reassure residents that it’s this activity that is helping us to identify and root out criminal behaviour. https://lnkd.in/eFUtM-QU
