Happy Earth Day! Today serves as a powerful reminder of the beauty and fragility of our planet. It's a day to celebrate, but also to reflect on our collective responsibility to care for the Earth. "While the task at hand is a challenging one…having our emissions reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative is a significant milestone and confirms the diligent work we are doing to minimize our environmental impact." - Sveinn Sölvason, President & CEO #ResponsibleForTomorrow #EarthDay

Today is Earth Day 🌍: a powerful reminder of how precious our planet is and what more we can all be doing to ensure we protect and care for our world. We're fully aware of our collective responsibility too. While Earth Day is recognised on the 22nd April every year, we want to make sure we're considering the impact on the planet with every action we take, every day. This also applies to the research we publish and making sure it can play its part in helping to solve global challenges. We currently have a selection of topical research, all related to the environment and sustainability, that's free to access until 30th April, 2024 - you can take a look, here: https://bit.ly/3IRK1Qo #EarthDay #Sustainability

#CHANGENOW towards Circular Packaging (and other sustainable practices) Planetary Boundaries: Six of Nine Boundaries Transgressed, Signaling Urgent Need for Sustainability • The concept of planetary boundaries identifies nine critical environmental limits beyond which human activities could disrupt Earth's stability. • Six of the nine boundaries have been transgressed, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and nutrient pollution. • Human-induced species extinctions have far exceeded the safe limit, with around one million of the 8 million plant and animal species threatened. • Several international initiatives aim to address planetary boundary concerns, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement, and the Convention on Biological Diversity. • Urgent action is needed to mitigate environmental degradation and bring humanity back within the safe operating space for sustainable development. https://lnkd.in/dYG9sPMp

FACT: People in the UK are creating more emission than ever before. This chart is very misleading. Factor in the massive number of shipping containers of stuff arriving from China every day in the UK. The UK emissions related to products produced in China are UK emissions moved over to another part of the planet. If you check the imports from China or outside of UK in 1938 or 1965 the volume would be very low. That is because The UK had a more localized economy decades ago. The 2019 blue value on this graph is more than double if you include the emissions created from material bought offshore.
