🚀 Exciting times ahead for the UK Space Sector! 🌌 A monumental leap forward for the UK space industry, with a £13 million boost in funding for 11 ground-breaking projects through the UK Space Agency's International Bilateral Fund. What excites me most is the sheer scale and ambition of the UK's commitment to space innovation. From leveraging AI to enhance space sustainability with partners like MIT and the Alan Turing Institute to breaking new ground with Rolls-Royce in space nuclear power, these initiatives highlight the depth and diversity of talent within the UK space sector. This isn't merely an investment in technology; it's a commitment to the future. The timing could not be better as we gather with industry leaders, innovators, and enthusiasts from around the world at the Space-Comm Expo to create a platform where these projects and the minds behind them will take centre stage, offering a glimpse into the future of space technology that these investments will help shape. It's exciting to be part of this community and witness first-hand how these investments will catalyse further growth, collaboration, and innovation in the UK space sector. I look forward to exploring the synergies between these funded projects and the discussions at the Space-Comm Expo. It's a unique opportunity to visualize the impact of these initiatives not just on the future of space exploration but on our society as a whole. Here's to unlocking the limitless possibilities of space and forging ahead into a future filled with innovation and exploration. 🌠 #SpaceCommExpo #UKSpaceInnovation #Collaboration #FutureOfSpace
We are boosting 11 pioneering international space projects with £13 million. 🚀 The second phase of our International Bilateral Fund will support projects that champion British innovation on the international stage, from using Artificial Intelligence to improve space operations, safety and sustainability, to high-resolution photos of the Moon and Mars to X-ray imaging to study the Earth’s Aurora in greater detail. 🌍 Read more about the projects 👉 https://lnkd.in/eYwPiKtg

Great news from Lisbon, Portugal! A strong group of International Space University alumni is currently attending the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA)/Agência Espacial Portuguesa | Portugal Space Management and Sustainability of Outer Space Activities Conference. Sustainability in space is a crucial topic that requires a global effort. It is with the ISU spirit of the 3i's (international, intercultural and interdisciplinary) that we contribute to this important topic. Let's work together towards a sustainable future in space. #UNportugal #spacesustainability

SGAC - SINC-2024 I had the pleasure of attending the Space for Island Nations Conference and participating in the 10th AP- SGW. It was my greatest pleasure to meet and work closely with Kaylee Li, Mudra Bansod, Khushi Shah, Viktor Loh, Kristine Jane Atienza, Aya Hesham, Aileen Wee,Chetan Shiraguppi... Here are my takeouts: * Space is not an isolated frontier - rather, it constitutes a multifaceted and interconnected industry with profound implications for our everyday existence on Earth. *In the 20th century, space exploration predominantly revolved around two superpowers, namely the United States and the Soviet Union, both possessing advanced technology and the capacity for outer space exploration. However, the landscape of the space industry has evolved considerably, witnessing the emergence of new players such as Europe, China, India, Israel, Australia, and Japan, each making significant strides in space exploration and technology development. As the space industry expands, there is a growing aspiration among nations of the global south to transition from being mere consumers to becoming active contributors as valuable technology producers within the aerospace sector. Many emerging countries are actively pursuing the goal of space exploration and its sustainable utilization, reflecting a global trend toward space engagement and innovation. Within this context, several nations have embarked on collaborations with other countries to develop their own space technology and industry. However, there are also nations encountering challenges in establishing a foothold within the space industry hub. …Please find the continuation in the attached PDF document. *Many thanks to the esteemed speakers whose insightful contributions enriched our dialogue and expanded our perspectives, Franck Marchis, Ulpia Elena Botezatu, Russell Boyce, Jerry Sellers, Luis Zea, Matías Campos Abad, Manny Shar,Emma Gatti.

It was very rewarding to participate in the conference on the Management and Sustainability of Space Activities organized by the Portuguese Space Agency and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) on May 14 and 15 in Lisbon. Two preparatory symposiums preceded the Lisbon Conference in November 2023 and March 2024, respectively. These technical and governance discussions involved over 80 specialists from 24 countries and led to the presentation of the 'Lisbon Declaration for Outer Space' on the second day of the conference. The Declaration identified six key points that will contribute to a sustainable future for space. As the conference concluded, we looked ahead to the Summit of the Future, where member states committed to creating a pact for a sustainable and safe future. The exponential growth of objects in orbit indicates both opportunities and challenges, such as the risk of satellite collisions with space debris and conflicts in resource exploration. Therefore, reaching the Summit of the Future will be crucial to the realization of more peace, security, and sustainability, especially with new technologies on the horizon. I also take this opportunity to congratulate the @Portuguese Space Agency, notably Ricardo Conde, Hugo André Costa Carolina Rêgo Costa, for organizing such an impactful conference in Lisbon. The dialogue in Lisbon will certainly impact the path forward! If you are interested in space sustainability, you can check out our space brief on this topic here: https://lnkd.in/dwuwKK8F #Space # Sustainability# VdA

Delegates have started arriving for the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), in Davos, Switzerland. Global leaders in government, private sector, academia, etc. are gathering in an effort to “shape global, regional, and industry agendas.” There are a couple of space-focused sessions such as Satellites as Storytellers; Big Questions: Impacts of Space Development + Exploration; Where will the Space Economy be by 2035; and The Purpose of Astronauts. WEF is structured into communities, one of which is the Global Future Councils. The aim of the Councils is to identify and share ideas, insights and innovations, for addressing complex global challenges. There are 30 Councils, each focusing on a thematic area including Future of Geopolitics, Future of Good Governance, Future of Technology Policy and Future of Space. One of the major outputs of the Global Future Council on the Future of Space is the Space Sustainability Rating (SSR), an award system to incentivise organisations to conduct space activities in a sustainable manner. The Council has also proposed the Space Sustainability Monitor (SSM), to track the implementation of international frameworks on space sustainability. To find out more about the evolution and future of space sustainability, join Dr. Brian Weeden (a former member of the Council) at the African Space Leadership Institute Webinar Series on Space Sustainability. 🚀 Fostering collaboration between space agencies, scientists, regulatory experts, and private companies worldwide is the basis for establishing a sustained and sustainable human presence on the Moon. This perspective underscores the importance of the collaboration agreement presented during Space Resources Week 2024, between SDA Bocconi's Space Economy Evolution Lab (SEE Lab) and the European Space Resources Innovation Centre (ESRIC). "In addition to agencies, private sector involvement in space exploration is growing both in terms of investment and potential returns. In such a context, the expertise of ESRIC and SEE Lab are clearly complementary." Simonetta Di Pippo, Director of SEE Lab. "The two entities bring unique expertise and perspectives that, when combined, can create synergies aimed at supporting and advancing the lunar economy.” Kathryn Hadler, Director of ESRIC. 🌌 Looking forward to a stellar collaboration! Special thanks to Mattia Pianorsi and Ernestina Binni! #SpaceResWeek #SpaceExploration #Science
