Are birthing adults getting the postpartum #HeartHealth support they need? A new study revealed that discussions about heart health, cardiovascular risk factors, and preventive measures were often missed during this critical “fourth-trimester” appointment. Only 60% of at-risk women from the study reported getting counseled on heart health at their postpartum visit. Natalie Cameron, the lead author of the study, proposed an extension of postpartum Medicaid coverage from the current 60-day period to a full year. This change would directly benefit more than 40% of women who have Medicaid coverage during pregnancy. #HeartDisease #PostpartumCare #Counseling #WomensHealth

😓 Struggling with low milk supply? Boosting your milk supply is easier than you think! 😃 ⚡ 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐨 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞! - To address low milk supply, identify potential causes such as breastfeeding technique, maternal health, medications, or baby-related issues like latch problems or tongue ties. Insufficient milk removal signals the body to decrease production. Professional input may be necessary for thorough investigation. ⚡ 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐝𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬- For better feeding outcomes, revisit positioning and latching basics regardless of your baby's age. Ensure your baby is turned towards you with no gap between your bodies and their head at breast level. Wait for a wide-open mouth and bring the baby to the breast. Seek assistance from a lactation specialist like Milk Diva or an IBCLC if needed, through in-person or virtual consultations. ⚡ 𝐏𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐝𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬- To enhance pumping efficiency, ensure all pump parts are functional and replace worn membranes. Use flanges that fit your anatomy properly and adjust suction and repetition levels as needed. Massage your breasts before and during pumping to stimulate milk flow. ⚡ 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐨 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧- Engage in skin-to-skin contact by placing your baby between your bare breasts, even during non-feeding times like binge-watching TV. Wrap a blanket around both of you for warmth and relaxation. This contact stimulates hormone production, benefiting both you and your baby. ⚡ 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠- Extended periods of baby sleep during the night can impact milk production differently for each mother, especially if they sleep longer than usual. While a 5-hour stretch might not affect supply for some, an 8-hour stretch could. However, it's crucial to consider the frequency of nursing within a 24-hour period. Babies who nurse every 2 hours during the day but sleep for 5 hours at night likely maintain sufficient milk intake. Conversely, if a baby only nurses a couple of times a day and sleeps all night, it may lead to supply struggles for the mother. Monitoring feeding patterns around the clock provides insight into milk supply dynamics. ⚡ For an even deeper dive into maximizing your milk supply potential and embracing the beauty of breastfeeding, we invite you to explore our blog at https://lnkd.in/g8YEPttp.
