With more and more cities eliminating "off-street" parking requirements on new development, this puts Atlanta in a critical position on deciding what is best for the city moving forward. Historically, Atlanta is a city best traveled via car. Between the different neighborhoods, suburbs and markets, traveling to all of the destinations via foot or bike is not feasible. But, with new additions such as the Beltline, this task becomes more attainable and will continue to become easier. With parking minimums being reduced or cancelled, where are all of the existing vehicles supposed to park? This offers a MASSIVE opportunity to existing parking structures to enhance their value to commuters and/orlocal residents by offering safe and affordable parking options. I highly recommend anyone who manages or owns a parking lot/garage to look to the future and determine how you will capitalize on the growing demand for parking spaces. As always, I am happy to discuss how Peak can put your property at the forefront of this wave and position your asset to capitalize on the changing landscape of parking in Atlanta, GA! #ParkingManagement #ParkingMinimums #ParkingSolutions #AtlantaParking #atlantarealestate

🚋 Kansas City Considers East-West Streetcar Line 🏢 Kansas City is exploring the possibility of constructing an East-West Streetcar line that would stretch from the University of Kansas Health System to the east side of Kansas City, Missouri. With 16 proposed stops along a 10-mile track, this ambitious project is estimated to cost between $560 and $650 million and would take approximately 9-10 years to complete. Funding for the streetcar line would come from federal, local, and private sources. Once operational, it aims to reduce traffic congestion in the city while improving air quality through its electric-powered system capable of accommodating up to 150 passengers. Beyond its environmental benefits, this new streetcar line promises increased economic development along its route and improved accessibility to jobs, education centers, and healthcare facilities. Furthermore, it seeks to enhance connectivity between neighborhoods—a crucial aspect for fostering cohesion within communities. The existing North-South Streetcar line at 10th Street and Main Street will connect with the proposed East-West route. During peak hours, the streetcars will run every 10-15 minutes while maintaining a frequency of 20-30 minutes during off-peak hours. Kansas City's current streetcar system has proved popular among tourists due to its routes passing by notable attractions such as Power & Light District, Crossroads Arts District, River Market—adding further incentive for potential visitors or investors. The preliminary phase of planning for this project began in April 2022; however, KCATA is still gathering public input regarding certain aspects like including parking or bike lanes along specific sections of the route. Your opinion truly matters! Feel free to participate in their survey at https://lnkd.in/gD8PVNum before December 1st. What are your views on an expanded streetcar network in Kansas City? When you make these decisions to close off streets permanently, it impacts more than just the few successful restaurants dominating and doing well. Having discussed this issue with some of the long-time retailers and seeing all the empty storefronts, their businesses are in the toilet because people can't find parking and don't want to drive around to find it...so they leave. California Avenue is a long-time charming, eclectic street, mainly with small businesses. While car-free worked for the pandemic, a study should have been done-instead of dismissed-to determine the full impact. Maybe close just on the weekends, one lane, or some sort of compromise. Ignorant and arrogant of PA City Council. There are parts of the Mission in SF also in the same boat-car-free permanently and also feeling the pinch. It shouldn't just be the loud voices that determine the future of #SMB

Latest P&J column trying to tackle bus-gate mania... Now, I know I'm dipping my toe into something that has raised a huge amount of ire in the city but I believe we have to give a chance to any measure used to adapt the city centre to modern issues. The same old, same old isn't working. This is slowly carving out a larger area of the city centre that will have significantly less cars in it. Again, it's not pedestrianization as any of us wanted, but it might be a step. It's also making improvements to public transport routes in the city. And, if it doesn't work or help, we'll soon know. Link below. Keen to hear folks thoughts on the exact journey issues this causes, as I typically find everywhere is still accessible, if perhaps by slightly different routes.
