Branding Highlights from GHI Americas 2024 Conference in Toronto This week, we had the opportunity to showcase the Mercury GSE brand at the GHI Americas 2024 Conference, held at the Sheraton Centre hotel in downtown Toronto. Our goal was to highlight Mercury's commitment to providing best-in-class ground support equipment and exceptional technician support. Here's a glimpse of our branding efforts: Branded Pillar Columns: We made a strong impression with branded pillars in the main registration area. Branded Hotel Key Cards: Every conference guest staying at the Sheraton received a branded key card, ensuring Mercury was top-of-mind throughout their stay. Vintage-Inspired Travel Decals: We offered a limited run of travel decals at our booth, providing attendees with a memorable takeaway item. Stay tuned for more updates as the conference continues. This is just a small sample of the opportunities and value that in-person marketing initiatives can bring. #Branding #Marketing #Conference #GSE #GroundSupportEquipment #GHI2024 #Toronto #InPersonMarketing #MercuryGSE #Innovation #CustomerExperience

🌍 Sustainable Practices in Question: The Irony of Hosted Buyer Programs 🌍 Greetings, MICE Industry Colleagues, As we continue to navigate the complexities of sustainability within the MICE sector, it’s crucial to scrutinize the traditional practices that may contradict our environmental goals. A prime example is the prevalent use of Hosted Buyer programs at major MICE trade shows, such as those in Frankfurt, where the largest groups of attendees often come from the USA, UK, and Asia. 🔍 The Unsustainable Model: These attendees are flown into Frankfurt for a whirlwind two-night stay, all expenses paid, from flights to 24/7 catering, under the guise of fostering business opportunities. Economically, these visitors contribute minimally to the city due to the brevity and nature of their stays. The question arises: why this lavish expenditure? 💡 The Old Versus New Sales Practices: Suppliers cling to the traditional "face-to-face" sales method, demanding that event organizers deliver attendees who are obliged to fulfill a quota of booth visits. This quid-pro-quo arrangement—free participation in exchange for mandatory meetings—underpins the Hosted Buyer model, similarly applied to sales events and Fam-trips. 🌟 Timing and Efficiency in Buyer-Supplier Interactions: While personal interactions between buyers and suppliers are undeniably valuable, they are most effective when timed appropriately - typically in the final third of the decision-making process, when buyers are genuinely ready to engage. Ironically, many MICE sales strategies insist on premature face-to-face meetings, an approach increasingly at odds with buyers' needs and sustainability principles. ✨ The Climate Paradox: It borders on the absurd for thousands of participants to be shuttled globally for MICE events, driven by sales strategies resistant to change, while suppliers simultaneously promote their sustainability solutions. This stark contradiction highlights a critical need for reformation within the industry. 📈 Call to Action: As professionals committed to genuine sustainability, we must advocate for practices that align with both environmental stewardship and the evolving preferences of our clients. Let’s initiate a shift towards more responsible and timely engagements that reduce unnecessary travel and promote meaningful connections. How is your organization addressing these challenges? What steps can we take to ensure that our industry practices reflect our sustainability commitments effectively? #MICEIndustry #Sustainability #EventPlanning #BusinessEthics #EnvironmentalImpact

Events, Incentives and Brand Experiences Strategy | Innovation and Creative Production | Sustainability, Diversity, Inclusion and Social Responsibility
I'm excited to finally delve into my extensive notes from IMEX Las Vegas. There's so much to cover, and I'll be sharing my takeaways in multiple parts. Here is the first: * The event and incentives industry is making a remarkable comeback, and IMEX, showcased this revival. With over 17,000 registrations from 180 countries, it's evident that the industry is bouncing back with resilience and vigor. #EventIndustry #IMEX #Resilience * Planning ahead is crucial, including some free time to recharge and spontaneous chats with people you meet on the show floor. However, I found the appointment system for exhibitors a bit challenging, especially for efficient viewing and filtering. #EventPlanning #Networking #IMEXExperience * IMEX is full of opportunities, but it can also be overwhelming and sensorially intense. The 'Resilience room' offered a much-needed escape for quiet downtime. #QuiteRoom #ResilienceRoom #SensoryRoom EventWell® Marriott International Helen Moon #GloogleXi Google Rosemary Koesling Megan Henshall, CMP, DES * Navigating the vast activities, both within and outside the venue, can be daunting, especially for newcomers. Initiatives like 'adopt a first-timer' and optional badge identification for those who find approaching others challenging could enhance the experience and foster new connections. #NewAttendees #Networking #Inclusivity * As IMEX continues to grow, hosting more microevents becomes essential to help attendees, particularly first-timers, navigate the bustling environment. * IMEX shines in its pre-show content programs, offering excellent discussions tailored to planners, corporate, association, executive, and women-driven content. #EventContent #IMEXPrograms * Keynote speakers can make or break an event. We explored how to create more engaging sessions and many other topics during Skift Meetings on IMEX Smart Monday (stay tuned for a detailed post on this). #KeynoteSpeakers #EventEngagement #SkiftMeetings Skift Meetings Andrea Doyle Miguel Neves Carina Bauer Tahira Endean, CITP, CMP, CED Image Description: In the photograph, Carlos Oliveira can be seen energetically in the air, after jumping in front of the branded IMEX backdrop.

A common group event planner myth: the larger the group, the lower the room rate. When in reality, group room rates offered by hotels are based purely on supply, demand and the overall value of your group event. Typically, when hotels have plenty of supply and your group event has value, more concessions can be given. How can you gain data insights and leverage that’ll help you score better group rates or other concessions? Arm yourself with market data. Use technology (like #GroupSync!) to dive into a market's historical rates and occupancy data. It can help you find cities that have lower occupancy during your program’s dates – giving you more negotiating power. And save you time in your sourcing process. #meetingsandevents #corporateeventplanner #businessmeetings #eventprofs #employeeretention #meetingplanning #meetingandeventplanning
